We had trouble with the zips on our awning last week and I suspect they need lubricating in some way. It has been suggested to me that I should run beeswax over each of the zips to get them to run better. Has anyone tried this or any other solutions to lubricate zips?

Silicone spray does the job. Rather than spray it on & get it on the material either side of zip, spray some into a small container & paint on with small artists' paintbrush.
I bought a can of silicon spray ,about £4 to spray into the awning rail before pulling the awning through. it has many uses, can be sprayed on window hinges. toilet seals , zips and anything else that needs lubricating.
I think I will try the beeswax.I am always worried about silicon spray as we were always told to steer clear of it when we had the tent as it can harm the proofing. thanks for all the replies.

I cut a "V" in a bar of soap and used that for zips & beading on awning.

A simple household candle will work just as well as anything expensive - on any zip, either in canvas or clothing!
If you have an awning made of canvas,or nylon NEVER use soap, it destroys the waterproofing. Candle wax, like any grease will leave pale marks on the canvas in time.
Remember that when folded up the zips will come into contact with the rest of the awning.
have asked a friend producing caravan cleaning materials and other products to come up with an awning and tent zip spray that will not destroy the waterproofing.no info as yet.you can buy some for wet suits but dare not try it.
