I've just spoken to my sister who is staying at Stowford Meadows for a few days. Her and her partner picked up their first caravan today from Highbridge Caravans and they got pitched up but the weather has turned horrendous. She's ok but her partner is getting very worried! The caravan is being buffeted by the wind and the rain is hammering! Hope they get throught the night! What a baptism! Hope everyone else who's away stays safe!
I can confirm that the weather down here is terrible as im currently staying on brook lea caravan club site just down the road from stowford farm meadows
I can understand why your sister's partner is worried im out in my awning every 5 mins checking the awning poles & the pads that go against the caravan.. i have even parked my car next to the awning & so have most of the other people on site to try & block some of the wind but does not seem to help much also had to wind down the caravan legs twice as the ground is soft after all the rain we have had hopefully wind will die down abit tomorrow......
cheers eddy & co

Ditto here at Hillhead nr Brixham. Our PDQ has suffered badly, couple of straps torn off & torn fabric. As soon as the kids were asleep we had to brave the elements & risk injury to take it down. It had collapsed yesterday due to one of the storm straps coming loose. Has calmed now but not looking forward to driving north to Weston in the morning. Some of the worst conditions we've ever seen.
Oh, & thanks to the people who simply walked on by while me & the wife were struggling to hold it down, nice one...!!!
Had gale force winds in Dorset for the last couple of days, calling for the full array of storm straps and guys. Very little sleep on Wed/Thu night as a result. Hopefully over the worst now.

we never do that as we have helped quite a few with strong winds.we in turn have been helped by others when setting up,especially at blackpool.i call it windy city.there was a time at moffat we had the pushchair and peg box tied to the awning,up all night keeping it from blowing away.a few lost there awning that night.i fit storm straps all the time now even summer days.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
we went to twywn last year and got hit with the tail end of hurricane Bill was awful thought the van would go over luckily the awning and van witheld but there were a couple that didnt make it (awnings not people) dh wasnt happy as i woke him up to see if he was scared :)
If people just walk on past and don't give a helping hand then they are not what I call proper campers. There is an unwritten rule when camping/caravanning that if you see someone having trouble you go over and ask if they would like any help. We always do.
Hi All, weather seems to be better yesterday & today the sun has come out to play lol
i too could not walk past anyone struggling i always think if that was me i would like someone to offer to help me, infact when i put my storm strap up other day i managed to break the clip in buckle so had to use a piece of washing line lol then following morning a kind gentleman acroos from me came over & offered to lend me so arrodite strong glue to try to mend the buckle done job but not tried yet..

we always lend a hand if needed, wether it's an awning down, a motor home/campervan stuck in the mud, or a car won't start, we always offer help.that's what camping/caravanning us all about :)
