i know your probs only too well Wendy, when I was with mum we had to restrict the journey time to 4 hours or 100 miles whatever came 1st as getting a disabled parking space at the services is a nightmare, with the van you have no chance

here is a crazy idea, why dont the services put a loo like builders use in the truck/caravan parking but have a RADAR lock on it or am i being far too sensible

Hi falenangle, Could you not get one of those Transfer folding wheel chairs, they are very light and very compact, cost around £100 though, you just hold the back rest and pull the seat down and chair ready for use, takes less than 2min to get it out of car unfolded an OH onto it, got one for OH 3 years ago and although unable to walk now she still uses it, she also uses the Paris Shopper scooter,(range 16 mls,)dismantles with one pull on lever and the rear wheels power unit seperates its so simple,to fit into car, not to heavy for my to handle after my heart opp (as cant push chair to far)  If any help the chair is called, The Avanti Transportation Chair.  Part number MAAIR 001  Max user weight 90kgs, may be a solution for you.

i have a littkle gogo shopping scooter that stays at home so does the wheelchair mines a light one but its still weight we can do without carrying we only have citron zantia estate car and the little caravan so we realy do have to keep things light. the radar key tolet would be fab but I cannot see them doing it. i did have a look at the disbeld sheewee type things in boots today but i would have to go comando with a skirt to use them the dog bowl looks more practical for me at the momnet. I have to say though that this is the only problem we have come across with me and the caravan so we will work with itas scotlands the bigest trip we do and thats a 2 stop trip. allthough we are thinking of devon next year so may emile the services for there parking and loo accses before we go.

Have you thought of something like this. My wife was severley disabled and you have to try everything. You could use it in the caravan in privacy.

Try this

Sorry to hijack the thread but just noticed on the link ontheroadagain posted there's a radar key for sale for £1.79.  What's to stop me, ordinary joe public from buying one just for the heck of it to misuse disabled toilets?  I always thought this was something special that would be issued to those who needed it.

Like the skateboard idea!

theres lots of people with radar keys that dont have the right to use them you can buy then anywere just look on ebay. I only discoved you can buy then after i had a medical for mine.  I did buy a smaller one to go on my key ring as the one you get from your councuil is huge.   The best one yet is is town were i live if your disabeld and dont have your key with you theres a bell to get the attendant to open the door to the disbaled loos. she allso lets mums and babys in there yet there a baby room 6ft away.  so looks like anyone can use a diabeld loo now
