I'm sorry, but it never ceases to amaze me the state people get into re matching cars and caravans, particularly when there's so much info freely and easily available on the internet.

As has been said, there's just 3 weights you need to check. The car's KW, in the handbook. The car's MTW, in the handbook. The caravan's MTPLM, on a plate on the caravan.

Sorted!

Supatramp..... yes there maybe lots of info on the net etc but sometimes it does all get a little confusing!!!!

So if i decide to turn to the lovely people on here for some advice...tips etc on where to look or even just to tell me then i may.

Being totally new to caravan weights.... & never even giving my cars kerbweight a second thought b4 i appreciate the time taken to offer advice...websites to check....etc.

Thanx for taking the time to reply though!! Much appreciated

J+K dont worry about the auto, I have towed with auto's for most of my caravaning years which are many and never had any problems, in fact they make the job easier. Fuel consumption is less but that is the same when driving solo, The auto box will change up and down a little more than you would on a manual but you soon get used to that.

The towing capacity does not usually change from manual to auto, Mine is the same and it is very nice not having to think about the clutch, being new to towing the auto will make it easier,

Have a look on the Ford web site

http://www2.fordconnection.com/fordconnection/multimedia/gbr_en/002/yyb/gbr_en002yybmodelspc.htm

This shows that a 1.6 tdci has a towing limit of 1300, The caravan you have chosen is under this maximun for the car, even though it may be over the 85% of the kerb weight of the car.

Forgot to add that 85% is just a guide and I think they are now saying up to 90% is o.k. The Bailey has a weight of 88% if my calculatons are right.

Dont know much about weights etc. but as a driver of an automatic with a petrol engine I can confirm that when towing, petrol consumption isnt really that much higher and that the auto gearbox is fine for towing. There is a bit of slowness on steep hills but a few extra revs does compensate

I think you'll be ok , your caravan max weight is 1240kg , your car max tow limit is 1300kg , so even if you loaded the caravan up to it's max allowed weight you'd still be legal .
What i would do is try not to take loads of heavy stuff in the caravan , eg keep the weight sensible when you pack to go away and you should be fine . Any heavy items you do take in the caravan place over the axle . Your car has a max towball weight of 75kg ( weight that the caravan hitch places on the towball ) , buy a nose weight gauge and make sure the hitch of the caravan does not exceed this weight when loaded , if it does you'll need to adjust the position of loaded items in the caravan ( but still keep any heavy items over the axle ) .
