Hello all. We are soon to be travelling overnight from Preston to Portsmouth to catch a 7:30am ferry to the Isle of Wight. We are taking our much loved dog with us and will need somewhere to stop - preferably close to Portsmouth - so that she can do her toilet before the crossing. She is fussy about where she goes so there will need to be grass!!!!. We've looked on maps and some websites for services close to Potsmouth but have not found any - even a layby would do. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Ok, the best place for you and pooch is the QE2 Country Park, just South of Petersfield on the A3 (even if you use the A34 - cross on A272 to A3).All of this, even the A3 to M25 will be quite quiet southbound at that time of morning - it livens up dramatically at about 07:30 ish.

This has extensive walks and doggy poo bins. A huge area with enough trees and grassy areas to satisfy and army of dogs. From here it is about 25 mins (max) to the ferry port -A3 then A27 then M275 to port entrance. Although the upper reaches of the park close at 20.00, and do not open until 08:30  the lower car park is open and you can walk on in and avoid paying too! Hope this helps! Adrian.
