We have noticed that we are getting brown stain marks on the outside of the van from the vent. We used the water heater this time only and we used the water heater and fire in February. It doesnt wash off. Can anyone explain what the problem maybe to cause this and how to fix it?

Is this above or below the vent, or if it comes to it... what vent?

Its above the vent. As you stand in directly in front of the caravan the vent is on the left hand side at the end of the front seat just before the wardrobe, which has the the zig unit on and the fire is on the bottom of the wardrobe.

Hi caris, If the vent is square and near the floor of the van, it should be your water heater vent, if that is the case, you will have two plastic plugs on it at the Left hand side of the vent, one small one at the top, and the bigger one at the bottom ( both have screwdriver slots in them) the top small one is to release air from water heater, and the bigger one is to drain water heater down(when not in use) the brown stains could be the build up of dirt around heater vent,( or more likely from exhaust vent if useing it on gas, especially if gas not used on it for some time, it gives off fumes same as new household cooker switched on for the first time) this could be causeing your stains, Fill water heater, turn on gas, switch on your gas heater switch on control pannel, wait till water heats up ,check the vent to see if any worse, leave on for a few hours(it should burn off any residual dirt etc), Same would apply if it is your gas heater(fire) and it vented out the side of van,and the fridge if gas not used for long periods( or exhaust pipe detached fron rear of fridge) Brown stain removal, i tend to use Tcut on a cloth and rub it very gently, and then polish with a wax, if you need any more information go to arc systems site on this forum, and wizards site there too. hope this helps you

I think you might be best to ask Gary at www.arcsystems.biz his opinion.

When was the last time you had your gas checked/serviced? I'm a bit concerned that it might be caused by a badly burning flame on one of your heaters

Hi

Thank you for the replies.

My husband said it is definately the water heater.

We only purchased the van in Feb this year and it wasnt stained then.

According to the seller the van was serviced last summer, we do have paperwork confirming this.

There are no smells or smoke coming from it when in use just steam.

When we first used the van in Feb the water heater kept going out after a short time, but it now stays on and heats the water without any problems.

My husband has spoken to arc systems and explained our problem and the man thinks it is probably the jets need cleaning on the water heater, my husband will check the flame situation one evening when there is no breeze and he's not on the night shift.
