Anyone got one of these and how do you get on with it. I am thinking of buying a ranger 540/6 at the end of the season? Anyone any tips for getting good deals from dealers at this time of year? oh and any dealers that may discount?
Can't help much im afriad rather than suggesting you go for the GT60 model's, thing's like stabiliser and alloy's as standard but then that's probably me being biased lol. My friend has the 6 berth Pageant Bretange which iirc is the 540/6 layout, very good layout, sorry can't be of much use other than that.
We're very happy with our GT60 540/6. Bailey do a few with the same layout (and some other manufacturers have very similar layouts too) which might be worth looking at. We went for the 540/6 in the end because all of our nearby dealers are Bailey, the price was right, the weight was right and the GT60 add ons were easily justifiable.
I guess it depends really on what your circumstances are - we have three children (oldest is 7) so the triple bunks are perfect, as is the bedroom door!
The only issue we've had since delivery is the toilet pump failed after our first trip out. This was replaced on warranty without issue and has been fine since.
For the main bed, we use the cushions upside down and then have a very thick king size duvet as our "sheet" which makes it perfectly comfy for us (and dead easy to make up!), although I know some people use a memory foam mattress topper instead.
I think if you do a search for 540/6 you'll see a few threads about them but feel free to email direct if you have any specific questions.
We have one, tows a treat with our 1.9tdi 130 Skoda superb, only problem we have found is as its a family van there is a distinct lack of power points, only 2 at the front end, so get them retro fitted in the bunk area, or take some extensions and a 2 multi plugs,
I agree with Avctaylor on getting the GT60 version for all the extra's they provide like the extra plug socket in the back bedroom etc.
Most dealers will give you a discount if asked and we also got a starter pack which included an awning and groundsheet. Our dealer doesn't offer one but as we'd seen other dealers nearby that did we asked him if he would and he did. We got the whole of the starter pack written down at the time of the sale so that nothing would be "forgotten".
We had one or two things remedied under warrenty with no quibbles from the dealer. I think most Bailey dealers are the same.
Imo the GT60 is by far the most attractive Bailey i've ever seen. I like the soft furnishing's, the decals on the outside, the wood inside and the solid wood door to the bedroom. All the other van's i've seen just aren't as nice or don't have the solid bedroom door or other little things that put me off. Obviously everyone is different but the GT60 ticks every box for me.
Just 2 negative's - there is no heating in the back bedroom and it's expensive to get the blown air heating pipe put up there, but we just take a radiator. And you can't really use the shower as there just isn't enough room. We knew that when we were buying it and it doesn't bother us as we prefer using the onsite facilities.
As you can probably tell i'm one very happy owner of my Bailey Ranger GT60 540/6

I didn't know that was a GT60 extra
We use a Tesco value little oil-filled radiator in the back bedroom in winter. Works fine. However, I wonder if getting a heating duct put in during the manufacturing process at the factory would be cheaper than having it fitted later? Might be worth the OP investigating that one before placing their order...
And we use a Tesco oil filled rad in the back bedroom too. At some point i want to get a plinth heater in there as its something that can fixed to the seat boxes.
I'm not sure if they will do that at the factory as i would have preferred the long window instead of 3 front windows and asked one dealer if when it was still at the factory they could put just one window in and he told me why they couldn't but i can't remember the reason
We opted for the standard Ranger because we decided we couldn't justify the extra cost and weight of the GT60. We also preferred the single front window. We had an Alko and spare wheel as extras and felt we got a great deal from Leisure Sales in Sandbach, Cheshire in August 2009. We shopped around for a while and no other dealer came close. The van has been back for some warranty work which they did without quible and we would highly recommend them. There accessory department is not the best though.
We have two children and think the layout is great. We have removed the lower of the three rear bunks to allow us extra storage, though it does tip out of the way anyway. The only drawbacks we have had are the small shower, which the kids refuse to use, it is cooler in the bedroom if you close the wooden door but we have not had to resort to supplementary heating. The other issue we had was the tap in the bathroom which is too long for the sink but that was solved thanks to a helpfull person on here recommending a thing to add to the tap.
We turn the front cushions through 90' to make the bed more comfortable and use a mattress topper. We have not noticed a problem with the number of sockets but then we do not take much with us! It tows fine behind our Mazda 6 estate and we go to France for three weeks on Sunday.
This is our first caravan and while it was in for the warranty work we had a look around at other layouts to see if we found one we preferred. We still think we made the right choice.
It is a fibreboard door with egg box spacing in the middle and cost £180 to replace.
The front window is in three bits cos to quote the caravan club the single piece front window is a money saving exercise.
But the GT 60 540/6 is the best van on the market cos i have one too
Bewere of the bathroom worktop edging strip coming off due to the supplier to Bailey not knowing how to glue the strip on. quote from Bailey.
The Full top will be replaced under warrentty though and the edging strip NOT just glued back on. reguardless of what the dealer says.
I have an e mail from Bailey quoting this
Please can you tell me what the procedure is when the edging strip on the bathroom worktop is coming away, do you replace the top or just glue the strip back in place?
