The formula is useful but not accurate, the answer is always on the high side so safe, but, the further you get away from the maximum pressure the more inaccurate it gets.
I don't have a listing for 1477kg at 54psi? have a look here or here and see if yours is listed
Well Debbie, 1477 is the maximum load in pounds which is 670kg, 94 is the Load Index for 670kg which is the load index number for single use, (no concern to caravan use but the lower LI of 92 is when tyres are used two together side by side on Transit vans etc).
The first link then has your tyres listed and the correct pressure is 43psi.
Not necessarily. The recommended pressure for the tyres I've got, which is what the fitter put in, is 40 but the handbook says 33 and I'm assured by Swift that the handbook is correct regardless.

Our tyre pressure is on the caravan plate which on ours is beside the door!
this is purly reliant on whether the tyres on the van are the same as was originaly fitted by the manufactorer. mine are not as the original tyre size is no longer obtainable
I am jumpiong n Debbies post here sorry Debbie but as everyones getting to know I worrie about everything.so we have tired that were fitted on our van 13 months ago and were puped upand done for us. as we have a van from the auntics road show. No hand book an unreadabel plate and differnt tyers do we follow the tire pressuers for the trie then
------------- Dyslexic not stuped
It's nice to be important but its more important to be nice
Wendy,no ned to apologise. My caravan is old too, and I should think the tyres must have been replaced at some time , it is 15 years old so may not be the same type as factory fitted .
I've no idea if we have a handbook with this information , as the van is in storage . Avondale are no longer trading so cant get info from them.
The best thing i can do is trust what Gary says, its the right pressure on his table.
you see I had not worked out correctly myself because I was using pounds instead of kilos.
you will need to find out what the maximum allowed weight is for your van known as the MTPLM or MAW then your tyre size & details Then find the tyre size in this list http://www.tyresafe.org/data/files/caravan%2008.pdf follow along to the max axle weight of your van & this will give you the correct tyre pressure
As said the hanbook may or may not be correct, it maybe the tyres are different or indeed some manufatures simply quoted the tyre maximum pressure? rather than the correct pressure for the vans weight! quite common that until recently!!
The Tyresafe chart shows correct pressure for most common sizes used today, the chart I have and linked too above is the old tyresafe chart from their original booklet, this shows a few more less common sizes today but still widely used on older vans.
Talking of tyres,we have just returned from our hols in Poole, we have a Rapido folding caravan , did all the checks before going ,tyre pressure ok , tread ok general condition of both tyres ok ,about 5 miles from our site one of the tyres shredded no problem only going slow, lucky we were right by a restaurant car park, so changed tyre for spare, we were concerned why a good quality tyre should shred as all looked ok . We went for new tyre to Nationwide Tyres Poole (very helpful and recommended) the fitter looked at the tyre which was a premium make and informed us that they all had date stamps on them and that our tyre was about 20 yrs, old( we purchased the Rapido second hand about 3 yrs.ago) and that the tyre had probably perished from the inside, he said that all caravan tyres should be changed at least every 5 years, never knew this , a lesson well learned.
