Although some of the caravan clubs records are inaccurate. As a former centre secretary, I am aware that the caravan clubs records for a few people show that their membership expires in 2110, not 2010. Unfortunately, mine was not one of them.

I got our new membership cards a month or two back with a renewal reminder, which I ignored as I paid by debit card automatically. This is how I have paid for the last five years, so thought no more about it until I received a letter the other day saying my membership had lapsed.

I rang the CC and asked what was going on, as I had never had probs in the past. I was informed that they are no longer allowed in law to take automatic payments from cards, and that I could pay a one-off by card or go Direct Debit. When did that happen?

Just out of curiosity, I have my van insurance through the CC also. To insure to with CC you have to be a member. What, I wonder, would be the state of play if membership expired and there was a need to make a claim? Does cover end with membership or would we be advised seperately that cover would come to an end, or would cover continue until the policy expired?

Hi Alistair, Must have happened between your last renewal and your current one. I pay mine by one off payment, I would presume that your caravan insurance starts on the same day as membership, if insurance is later date then you still should be covered, as you will have certificate of insurance with a start date and an expiry date, even if your club membership expired, I think to be safe than sorry, think I would ask club to verify the position on that one, should be straight forward though, your covered untill policy expiry date, mind you some insurance companys will use any get out clause not to pay out.
