hi all i need help with a problem with the fridge when connected to the car it will work for about 5mins then it go,s off on off on with a clicking sound from the fuse board had car checked by tow bar fitter all ok on car in the caravan hand book it says pin 4 for fridge on 12s it says pin 6 tow bar fitter says it should still work as pin 4 is permanant live the caravan is year 2000 lunar

frdge will only work with the car engine running.afterthe engine is switched off it will gradually lose amps and no power will go to the fridge.the clicking you hear is the habitation relay and that is normal.you dont say if the engine is running or not

the relay in the caravan should not be clicking with car running.it sounds like the smart relay in the car is at fault.tow bar fitter doesnt know his stuff because fridge would not have a permanant supply.it is supplied via the smart relay from the car when the engine is running.otherwise the fridge would kill your car battery within an hour with the car switched off.

fitter says relay is on pin 6 should i swap wires on caravan plug from pin 4 to pin 6 ?

there should also be two earths.one for the fridge.to be safe i would get somebody competant to check the wiring on your towbar.if you go onto the caravan club website and put in 12s on the search it will show you the wiring diagrams.you need the one for 1999 to 2008.if the fitter says he has wired the relay to pin 4 it is wrong.the earths will also have to be checked.
