Ive had many a caravan through out the years, ones with bunks and ones with fixed beds,My problem is,i sleep well the first night in a new van then the old back starts to hurt im only glad to get home and dive into my own bed at home.Has anyone got a secret for a good nights sleep other than the obvious like drink and other jokes.....
Firm flat bed helps have you tried sleeping on teh floor? May sound daft but it will at least be firm. Could you put a board on top of your side of the bed cushions?
Having a memory foam topper on top of the caravan cushions is nothing like having a full memory foam mattress. The firmness of the caravan cushions is softened by the memory foam, but you don't get that sinking feeling, whereas I found with a full memory foam mattress I felt I was sinking into it too much. Maybe worth giving one a go.
I bought a full memory foam matress for my 2 berth and i get a great nights sleep.
If you do suffer back ache though, better to get it checked out as the mattress is not a means to make your back better!!

I bought a double bed size mattress reviver with two free pillows for £19.95. It is lovely and thick - similar to a duvet but with elastic on the corners to hold it on the mattress.
Room is more a problem for us. We are used to a king sized bed at home and have found that we get more room in the caravan by topping and tailing. I did get kicked in the face one night but a good dig of female nails in the foot has conditioned him into keeping still.

That would crucify me I'm afraid. Very much depends what's wrong with your back, also your size/shape & weight will dictate what sort of firmness is best for you.
I'm getting by with extra seat cushions under `my side' of the bed. Going to look into getting new ones made to order from somewhere. If anyone can recommend a good place that will supply online I'd be glad yo hear about it.

Tockfield have got a good reputation for new caravan upholstry, and will even let you stay overnight on their customer service pitches, ajacent to the workshop in a pretty part of Derbyshire, not far off the M1 and A38, whilst the work is done.
They do run an online ordering system too, but that way you dont get to try the many different grades of fillings available before you buy, which they have on display in their showrooms onsite.
