What is happening to caravanning ?? Im used to going to friendly sites and meeting new people thats what caravanning is to me. The last three sites I have been on in the yorkshire area this season have all changed to mostly statics and seasonal pitches, so while weekends are busy monday to friday the sites were like ghost towns. Not my idea of caravanning.
I tend to agree with your view that it makes some campsites less inviting but it seems that many campsites want to take the easy way out and prefer a guaranteed income rather than being at the mercy of the touring camper. It would be better if such campsites maintained a separate area for touring units like a lot of German sites do.
I understand its a regular income for site owners especially with our english weather, but most pitch holders only use them at weekends making it very unwelcoming during the week when you are the only tourer on the site and all the other pitches are taken but unoccupied.
We stayed in the lakes last year on a site that was mainly seasonals, we were the only one there for the week days and loved having the place to ourselves.
We were like that during the foot and mouth epidemic but you cant beat a nice friendly site and meeting new people from all walks of life, thats what caravanning is all about.
