Just on our way back from Italy (free wifi) and OH would like to know why our caravans have gloss sprayed aluminium body shell and Dutch & German Hobby's have the pebbly texture panels even on their newer models.

Some English caravans used to have the same type of finish, I had a CI Flair like that. It was difficult to keep it clean looking. I don't know for certain but I wonder if they use a thinner guage aluminum as the bobbles might give extra rigidity. In recent years many UK caravans have moved to an even thicker body shell. Be interesting if any one has the definitive answer.

Current model Hobbys have smooth sides & so do all other German made caravans I can think of so obviously a thing of the past. The dimpled sides are difficult to clean. If not cleaned regularly the dirt gets ingrained & the caravan looks dull.

But it does aid greatly in hiding minor "dings". The smooth side is absolutely unforgiving.
