We are looking to getting a caravan and have family that would like to come away sometimes too. I have found an awning with built in groundsheet so is there any reason we can't sleep in the awning attached to our caravan?
Also can you get inside pods for awnings just to put up at night for a bit of privacy? I have googled but got lost in the www!

Thanks.

We sleep in our awning in the bedroom pod and take it down in the daytime and fold it over the airbed. Sites have a maximum person policy sometimes though, so number of persons to a pitch and extra cars are usually charged for. Sometimes campsites dont mind you putting up a tent next to your caravan, you have to check when booking.

Hello yep i take some of my family away and they sleep in the awning, we have an annexe pod thing on ours, but I do know some awnings you can by pods for, before this awning though we use to peg a tarpaulin up as a sectioner thing for some privacy for them not the most glamerous but it did the job, treat it like sleeping in a tent lots of layers if it's cold and perhaps a awning heater too.If the weathers nice I often sleep in the awning with the dog, as OH he is a snorer lol.

We use a pop up tent for my daughters through the warmer months which is no extra cost at caravan club / camping and caravanning club sites. We have also used the pop up tent inside the full awning (to avoid paying the extra £5 per night) on a site.

Hi

Just read your post and couldn't help spotting the "awning with built in groundsheet"

I'd love an awning with built in groundsheet but didn't think anyone did one.  Do you know the manufacturer of the awning please?

My son always sleeps in the awning.  He loves it as he has his own space away from the girls lol.

Welcome to the world of caravanning.  What are you getting? :)

My boys always slept in the awning. We just divided the area off with a extra pole and a curtain hung from it with shower rings.  Worked fine and pushed to the side during the day. they slept on two sun beds in sleeping bags.  That was way back in the late 70's early 80's

We have an outwell countryroad (I have done a review on here) it is a drive away awning with zipped in ground sheet so keeps the draughts out when OH uses it for sleeping. It is for campervan not caravan so not sure if you could adapt it to fit.?? We found the supplier very helpful as they say they had a hand in designing it with Outwell. we bought it via internet. There is a bedroom pod available to attach for privacy but we don't bother as only two of us and it does take up half the awning.

I sleep in campervan OH sleeps in awning partly lack of space, partly he does snore ...... just a little! We have EHU for camper and thread extension into awning with small blow heater to take chill off air in colder nights.

Only downside is the groundsheet is not eco friendly some sites insist on them but we tell them about ours and usually if only staying for the weekend then not a problem. If longer they can ask to move it around so not to damage grass. Hard standing not a problem.

I noticed the same thing, but I bet it would be a devil to errect with the extra material.  Not sure it would be for me, but would be interested to know what make it is etc.

We use a pop up tent in the awning, end of season bargain from Tesco.

Some camp sites frown on the built in ground sheet as they are normally not breathable and damage the grass.
