Hi, can anyone help. We,ve had a problem on our van with a leaking Whale whilst on holiday in Cornwall. It,s been dripping from the caravan connection for a while, but after filling the aqua roll up, then re-connecting the whale, it started pumping water back out from the caravan connection. I checked the "o" rings which seemed fine. I was advised by a local caravan shop to replace the "o" rings to see if that stopped the leak. However he could only supply an "o" ring with a slightly thicker wall thickness. Because of the size I could only use one new "o" ring at the front with an original "o" ring at the back. This was on the blue connection on the van which accepts the Whale. Tried re-connecting but the Whale still pumped water even though the Whale was a tighter fit.

Sorry if this went on a bit, but has anyone had a similar problem. our van,s a Bailey Ranger 470/4 2004, thanks for any replies.

I think you might have an internal leak on your connector but I have noticed on site this past fortnight that many people don't close the flap down on to the plug in order to lock it in, this can cause leaking due to the plug being forced off by water pressure.

I suffered this problem for 3 years and I may have your solution. Three caravan engineers at annual services failed to cure this - all they did was keep changing the 'o' rings. I persuaded the excellent Whale company to send me a free replacement as it had been like it almost since new.

I eventually took the old pump plug apart (2 screws) and - hey presto - the hose had become separated from the plug body. I could have fixed it myself with the appropriate adhesive but think I was justified in having a new one. So I now have a spare. Al that wasted water caused by a simple thing.

Give this a try...

Thanks for the response. I will have to make sure the flap is in the right place and check thehose in the Whale. Since my message I,ve replaced the "o" rings anyway.

I was told that the pumps suffered in the cold winter we had, which made them contract/expand - hence them not fitting too well.

We had to buy a new pump recently because the old one died. We noticed a difference in it fitting more snuggly to the caravan - the other one was a struggle to shove on and was drippy.

Do you know another caravanner who could let you try theirs on your connection? May save you worrying about the internals! We were lucky enough to go to a shop where the owner let us borrow one to try before we bought one.

Just a thought.

I should add that when you remove the pump plug from the van's socket be sure to pull on the plug body and NOT the hose. It usually needs a fair tug to pull it out and pulling on the hose is not a good idea - probably how you and me ended up with this problem.

This last trip out over the weekend we experienced problems with spluttering feed when initially turning on either hot or cold taps from both wash room and kitchen. Checked outside and noticed water dripping from the connection. Checked and found half the o ring missing on the caravan connection! Will obtain new ring before next trip but the info on here most helpful - I will also strip the pump connection to ensure the assembly is sound.
