Hi I am new to caravanning, I considering purchasing a 2002 Fleetwood Colchester 500/5 from a private seller, I am trying to have a HPI check carried out on the van with CRIS, unfortunately the number on the windows does not match any number on the CRIS database, I have checked the number again and this is the number on the van - SGF5000FL2C080517 OR SGFS000FL2C080517.
Has anyone had any problems with this, or any suggestions how I get around this problem.
I would appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me.
I thought that the vin number was also etched on the chassis, I don't know where, but it should be there, with a 2002 caravan I would have it thought that it would be cris registered. To be very honest if its not registered I would be having second thoughts, there have been cases on caravan sites that the police do checks and you end up with no caravan.
Higgi4a, just noticed your in Northern Ireland. Is it possible that in 2002 Northern Ireland was not part of the cris registration?? just a thought, im sure someone will confirm.
Run your fingers over the number on the windows...every window. If the number is not raised its just not right. Some would say stolen only because that is the usual reason.....Anyway, VIN should be on the A Frame. The owner should have a CRiS registration document to back up the number.
Just think, all posts are saying leave that van alone...enough said do you think?

Thanks
SGFS000FL2C080517 would be the correct number (the S standing for single axle)
This is not the first time I've heard of a problem with CRIS nor, I doubt, will it be the last.
The answer lies on how much you want the van I suppose, and the answer to why it is not registered with CRIS lies with CRIS.
Yes it could be stolen but that doesn't explain why it is not registered with CRIS, do all the numbers on all the window match and match with the chassis VIN
Your options:
Find out if all the numbers match on windows and chassis -
if they do -
Go back to CRIS, if they can't find the details again ask them why they can't find them and what reason there would be for that number not being in their database.
OR
as the others have said walk away from it
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
If you want to insure it with the CC they will ask for the chassis number, if it does not match their database discription of the caravan they will NOT insure it!
My advice as others have said is find another caravan, its not worth the risk!
