According to this story caravanners avoided South Wales like the plague this summer, while most other places around Britain seem to have reported a very busy season indeed.
What's the truth? Did you holiday in South Wales, and if so was the site busy? If not, why not?
------------- * You never know where you're going 'til you get there...
we went to pembrokshire this year for the first time in many years .
i cant say it was very busy because the weather was so bad but on the odd good days we were told that the beaches that i had recommended to someone were very full.
i think their is a bit of over hype on how busy some areas were ,we were in Scotland in July and August, and the c&cc sites we stayed on had about 50% occupancy most days, a little bit busier at weekends but still plenty of spare pitches , i some times wonder if it is the Camping and caravaning industry over hyping this we will be full rum ours so every one will book early ,and pay deposits , or maybe not and some areas were very full
We had a week at the excellent CC site at Freshwater East in July, it was as busy as usual.
I think quality sites such as the CC ones will always weather any storm better than any `marginal` ones where people will go if they can`t get in to their first choice.
TBH, we go to South Wales because it IS quiet, not unlike North Cornwall but without the crowds and without the exploitative prices.
We went to Freshwater East too after being told the beaches in the area were huge but quiet, we deliberately go in term time to avoid busy times but it was a lot busier than I expected.
The site itself was booked as full but according to the wardens there were a lot of no shows.
We were in Brecon and Freshwater east in July / august and it all seamed very busy to us. Once we ventured in to Tenby but found it far to busy for us, we put it down to more people holidaying at home instead of flying.
Could it be a statistical flaw caused by schools breaking up later in July this year than last year?

They didn't round our way!
The trouble with our area is we have strange holidays (6 terms a year and short summer hols), so its difficult to know what other areas do. So forget the idea of the stats being wrong.

Ever found a cheap campsite in S. Wales???? nuff said.
ps - if you have - let me know
maybe its a wake up call for South Wales to bump up their game and either offer more for the price or lower the price as people are seeing it as a expensive camping option
Don't know about South Wales but if it's anything like North Wales they charge too much. Even though I live only 5 miles from Wales I rarely go there as their pitch fees are so much more than comparable sites this side of the border.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Well I've never been able to get into Pembrey Caravan Club site, particularly over the holidays and we also visited Tredegar Park over the summer and it was full!
