I would like your invaluable assistance please! Can you help at all we are looking to buy a fixed bed caravan with full length bunks down at the other end for older children, i know you folks will know the best caravan/caravans with this layout and will be able to give guidance as to where to look to buy? We want to buy november /december time and our budget is approx £5000, is there such an animal at all for this budget? We have recents sold our avondale dart 410 as it was too small for our children now, just felt like we were all far too close to another at night time......
We have a an estate car which will tow 1600kg. A friend of ours has a german import Hobby 495 model, any thoughts?
To my knowledge, I have not heard of a caravan with a fixed bed AND fixed bunks. Usually, the fixed bed is at the rear of the van. and the lounge beds are used as two singles or make up to another double. I could of course be wrong....
Have you considered a 5 berth double dinette. We opted for this layout because it gives the option of leaving the rear bed made up as a double and our two front seats are long enough for 2 singles. We found that bunks had a weight limit that our lads would soon be too heavy for and we didn't want a fixed bed taking up valuable living space if all 4 of us are in the van without having the awning attached. The layout works for us but our lads sometimes go to bed later than me..we use the back as a double so I shut myself away. The downside is I have to climb over OH to get to the loo.
Apologies MJBS for the confusion i did mean lounge beds long enough to be singles and not a fixed bunk as well as a fixed bed! Thanks for your replies, i have been looking through previous excellent threads on fixed beds and i think some of those mentioned look just the ticket! i'll have to do some googling for pictures of interiors methinks. Mrs Anorak that's another distinct possibility
I haven't found a single axle van with a fixed bed which has lounge beds that make decent sized singles so I'd be very interested to hear what you go for
Any thoughts on non uk spec Hobby vans? it's a 495 from 2001 OH's friend/colleague tells us . The Sockets have be changed to uk from european ones and of course the door is at the other side ? He tells us that has caused no problems but of course he think he would say that as he may like us to buy it ! Anybody know of any other differences it may have? Will i have difficulty insuring it?
We have a van with a door on the "wrong" side for the last 5 years. hasn't caused any great problems sometimes we have had to pitch with the A frame in but only very occassionally. Certainly having the door on the continental side wouldn't stop us buying a another one

Thank you Boff. Did you find insuring it okay?
We had no problems but ours is a uk supplied Hymer it is insured with the caravan club. I would have thought that if you rang arround you would be ok, but remember insurance isn't just about cheap payments its about paying out as well and we have no probs on that score
when we bought our Bailey Ranger 620/6 it was because it had a fixed bed but also because the front seats were also long enough for my teenage boys (one who is 6'4) to sleep on them as singles, so that could be an option. Another van we've seen, not sure of model but it was a hobby that had fixed bunks at 1 end, fixed double at the other end and a seating area in the middle.

Hello, quick update ! he's decided not to part with Hobby, we've looked at adria 502dk but fixed bunk not bed which is not what my hubby had in mind, looking at a Lunar Lexon eb on saturday hopefully and it looks as though it has the elusive long bunks/daybeds that can be used as single bunks as opposed to a double ;o)
