Please put it in writing that you have received a deposit of £x and the balance due on collection is £y. Also state that if the balance is not cleared funds (ie cheque/draft/cash not checked by bank), collection will be upon confirmation of funds clearing.
Also make sure the van is secure, especially if the buyer knows where it is being kept.
Sounds paranoid but I wouldn't want to see you out of pocket.
Interesting development. Legally, what has happened here is that you have now entered into a different contract to that set out under EBay auction conditions. For the avoidance of any doubt and to protect your position it would be beneficial to put it all in writing confirming that you both agreed the way forward. It would help if they wrote to you to confirm as well so that you are covered.
Then there is the deposit issue. Is it clear that the deposit is to cover your expenses or part payment for the van? If the deal does not proceed will they get the deposit back or is that forfeit? That may need to be clarified. Further it would probably be as well to say that title to the caravan will not pass to the buyer until all monies due have been paid. Don't want any come back from the buyer claiming that he has a legal interest in the van that may prevent you from selling it elsewhere. As you are dealing with a Polish gentleman I would add that English Law applies to the deal.
Payment of balance in cash or a bankers draft would be best so that you can get rid of the van when that is in your hand.

Bankers drafts are no more secure than any other method these days, as there are so many stolen and forged drafts out there. And you're probably the same as most of us in that you only see a draft once in a blue moon. Banks often don't initially recognise a fake.
Also there is a large amount of forged notes in circulation, and the forgers are getting rapidly more sophisticated. Even if your wife was at the top only a few months ago, that may not help now. Don't get complacent and remain on your guard.
"Bankers drafts are no more secure than any other method these days"
Forgeries aside, I think they are. Mind you, where your money is concerned, "remain on your guard" is sound advice. If you are getting a bankers draft its a good idea to have a look at a valid one so you know what one looks like if you have never dealt with them. Anyway, one way to make sure of getting the money could be to arrange and expidited clearance of funds through the buyers and sellers Bank. Both Banks are advised of the date of the required transfer and both go along to the sellers Bank to pay the cheque in. They then go off and have a coffee together whilst the two Banks effect clearance. Go back to the Bank after about an hour (or however long the buyers Bank say it will take) and the Bank will confirm that the sellers cheque has cleared...all being well! Hand over the caravan.
May not be able to do that if the buyers Bank is in Poland so get son to pay money to Dad first and then use Dad's cheque. One of the many potential complexities of selling via eBay!

Well there's not much more I can do until next weekend when he's agreed to collect and pay for it. We'll see what happens.
It's much easier selling boats via ApolloDuck. I've just had a very nice chap drive all the way from Devon to Cheshire to collect a sailing rig. Arrived on the dot, cash in hand, chuffed to find the bits he was looking for.
Just to say that it is finally all sorted out. I had to resort to reporting it as an unpaid bid, which resulted in the buyer contacting me within a minutes to arrange collection. I've never had to use the Resolution Centre in ebay before, but it seemed to work very well. In future I'll consider being a bit more stroppy when I make a listing.
Anyway, we are now caravanless for the first time in many many years
Glad your sorted but don't blame ebay, I love ebay, first port of call now for anything I want. Apart from a couple of minor niggles like out of stock and taking 7 days to tell me! I find it fantastic and the savings sometimes massive.
I kid you not and not counting the £8000 conservatory I bought for £750 earlier this year! and it's as good as new and as white as the day it was made! I reckon I've saved around £1000 on ebay this year alone buying DIY stuff
What really does surprise me though is how I can buy Carver bits so cheap, bought a complete gas fire tonight while two other bidders messed about in two quid bids trying to outbid me!!
One of the bidders I recognise by the amount of dealings he's done, this is the third time he's tried to out bid me and he's still not learnt LOL
They had absolutely no chance and I still got it well under the maximum I was prepared to pay
Conversely, I've just fixed a fire for a guy here on UKCS, he tells me he was going to buy a replacement off ebay and that one went for around £260, I think he said, I overhauled his own fire as good as new for £150 including the postage back!

Wow, I would have never thought of looking on eBay for a conservatory, have you got it fitted ok? I'd be worried threred be some bits missing. Well I. Off to look now anyway
Fitted? I'm sitting in it writing this!!
Total cost, foundations, bricks, bricklayer, insulation, floor, wet under floor heating, polished floor tiles and few other bits, was just over £2000.
That's for a 3x3m internal Victorian style, I reckon with the heating, that would be the best part of 10K new and installed?
I was lucky and bought it already dismantled but there was bits and bobs missing and some broken, found a supplier in Derby and cost £40 for everything. That's why I know it's not 'yellowed'? can't tell the difference between new and old, well it is a Synseal conservatory!
Footnote, the sellers were really nice people, don't get me wrong, but just perhaps a little short on the truth?
I got the impression one of the main reasons for selling was the noise when it rains, second, when we put it together, it was blindingly obvious that originally it was put together far from correctly, and it's more than a fair bet, leaked! both water, air and of course heat!
As a caravanner, the 'noise' is just fine! and leaks? not a sign, now perfectly water and draught tight, and it's been well tested today, I can tell you!!
To say we are highly delighted with it is an under statement, just got to fit the outside light now? but that little jem is another story and I might add...another ebay super bargain?
