HA HA,,,,i knew you would look hehe,,,,please carry on reading,
we have been to the Lincon Motor Home Show this weekend, took a large fairly new, generator as their isnt any hook up, the genni ran everything fine for about 4 hours, then TOTAL BLACKOUT !!! thought we had ran out of petrol,,,,,no!!!, lost both 12v, and 240v,..... nothing!!! tried all fuses, battery, etc.,,,ended up ringing an engineer who will come out next thursday, looks like we have blown a circuit board in the power/battery charger ???, The battery is fully charged and working but thats where the power stays !!! as its a newish van it should switch over automatically, but no,,, GUTTED !! anyhow we muddled through by torchlight, (very romantic) hehe, and loved the weekend at the show.
Has anyone else experienced this at all please ????

The generator should be a full inverter type like the Honda EU20i or EU10i to be completely safe for use in new caravans or with electronic accessories.
The EU20i is an expensive genny at £1255
I don't know if there are other cheaper generators with full inverters or if you can get a full inverter added to a standard generator (which would be more useful)
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby

welcome but i do believe you can buy a spike prevention equipment but as said only what i have read over the years no personal experience.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Look on this web site for the Schaudt OVP01. Its included on the page "latest products".

These go in-line before the charger to protect it from mains spikes and issues like having an unbalanced neutral.
I am surprised it happened though with a "really expensive" generator, unless it was expensive simply because it was big. These voltage instability issues are more associated with the cheapo poorly regulated type when used on modern vans and where the load is switched.
A big "no no" is to ever let them run out of petrol though you say this was not the case here.
Well actually the generator was a good buy from ebay,,,bought brand new, however it isnt an english make, its called a Kippor, i think they are based on the Honda but half the price, however was expensive for us, looks like this was the sting in the tail !!
