Hi I'm in the process of buying a Swift Carisma Caravan, the shower tray is cracked, does anyone have any experience of repairing or replacing the shower tray.  To replace it is it expensive, or to repair it is it a good job.  Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

I'm in the process of refurbishing the shower room in my 'van.  I found the tray that suited best was a B&Q resinlite tray - http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=10567943&fh_view_size=10&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=760+shower+tray&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1286128830101&isSearch=true

It is possible to reduce the tray down to 650mm if needed.

When i removed the original caravan shower tray, I found the fall towards the plug hole was achieved with wooden wedges under a piece of ply.  This gave the base of the tray a spongy feel which had lead to cracks.

The B&Q tray already has the fall moulded into it.  It has a resin surface and a dense foam backing. It can be cut with a fine-toothed wood saw.  It also has a bigger waste outlet to ensure a fast flow.

We replaced a shower tray in our previous caravan Elddis, due to a fault during manufacture of which caused the tray to crack around the plug hole, Elddis would not replace FOC. we ordered a shower tray through local caravan dealer for our model 475, it cost £87 which I was please with. The fitting was priced at near £200 so hubby fitted it and did a good job, it just took 2 hours.

Good Luck

I did a cheap repair on mine with epoxy putty. Ground up the surrounding area and pushed the putty into the cracks, then smoothed it out with water. Once it was dry, the shower tray was   masked around and I sprayed with plasticote. In hindsight, I wouldn't recommend spraying it as the fumes were overpowering while it was being done. The result is clearly not as new, but first impression you wouldn't tell and the water is not getting into the floor.

How about an idea of pricing as well as time needed to do the job.
This could well help lots of caravanners.
Thanks

local to our workshop prices would be between £140 and £220
and between £170 and £300 further afield dependant on distance. maybe an extra charge if over 150 miles too and from a job.
cheers andy

We have a charisma550  The shower tray was replaced under warranty because of a crack near to the toilet. The fitter who did the job told us he was not surprised that it cracked as it was only supported at the edges so he built up under it with plywood so this could possibly be the cause of your problen

Thanks for that, it looks good in the picture and it could well be interesting and I'm sure many of us will form an opinion of which route to go now. Thanks also for giving us the time it would take.

If you use a product called protectakote, you can rejuvinate your shower tray for about £20 and you will never have any more problems.  Three generous brush coats and you have a tough flexible waterproof skin that will still be there when your van is gone.  I have used it, and it is smart, effective and inexpensive.  google it for a supplier.

I use speedliner which is a lot better than protectakote. protectakote peels where as speedliner dosent because of a the speedliner primer which is used for the speedliner paint to bond to speedliner is also the worlds toughest liner proven. i have used protectacoat in the past and in time it wears and peels where as speedliner stays strong and robust for life.

wouldent you repair the crack as well before re- coating which kind of defeats the object if you are only going to line it no repair has been done.
