We currently have a Burstner Motorhome but are thinking of changing back to a caravan. Burstner do not supply UK caravans anymore but I'm hopeful that a dealer will be able to get me one even though it would have a German Spec.

Does anyone own a Burstner Trecento and can say what they think of it, on the screen they look very good.

Hi Mike, have you found a dealer that will be apply to get one for you? While we have not got a Burstner Trecento we have thought about buying from abroad so would be interested in how you go about it. We like the Geist caravans but as you say German caravans are not imported into the UK anymore. Its a great shame as we do not have much confidence British caravans, so many (including new) have build issues.

When we were in France this year we saw so many lovely caravans but we simply can't get them here anymore. So i would be interested in which dealer you'll use and how you get on?

I went to the NEC yesterday hoping to see some contenental caravans but there were hardly any. There were Burstner M/homes. I did ask about them but was told that due to the exchange rate situation it made them expensive.

Also most of them don't have the cooking or bathroom requirements most Brits want.

I have a English friend who lives in Germany and he has had two German caravans and has had a packet of trouble with them. The grass isn't any greener on the other side!!!

John, thats interesting and good to know - why do we always think the grass is greener on the other side??

Also i wonder why these German manufacturers can produce motorhomes and not caravans for the British market, surely the exchange rate is the same for all products?

It appears that there is a great deal more profit to be made out of M/homes for the this market.

Had a Burstner Belcanto new in 2007.

That was the last year Burstner imported vans to the UK due to the exchange rate.

It was an excellent van, had a bathroom as good as any British van, a 4 burner hob and small oven/grill, microwave in the kitchen.

The Trecanto was the "top spec" van just above the Belcanto.

They are excellent vans, very well built so don't believe the stories about low spec etc etc, ours even had an island bed before any British manufacturers introduced them.

We retired in January this year, moved to North Devon and downsized house etc.

We had to get rid of the Burstner as it was too large to fit on our new drive at home.

Bet his problems don't include damp.

We also have a Burstner Belcanto 2007 and have found it excellent.  I would recommend the make to anyone, I think it's worth going to the trouble of getting one from abroad.  German build quality is superb.  We used ours non-stop for 15 months in all sorts of conditions, found it very comfortable and had no problems.  You only have to look in the "repairs" forum to see how many British caravans have issues with damp etc.

We tend to use the Motorhome as a caravan in that we always use campsites and stay on them for a wek or before moving on. We also spend around 5 months of the year abroad including 10 weeks in Spain.

We would be better if we had transport while we are away so that we can get around a bit more.

If you are abroad for 5 months every year why not buy your caravan while you are there and get it serviced there as well?

The total time spent abroad is around 5 months but is split, this year we had 10 weeks in Spain during Feb/March/April, we went to Germany and Holland in June and Southern France in Sept/October.

We have had an e-mail from Burstner saying that there are 2 dealers who are able to purchase caravans from them.

CamperUK at Lincoln and Southdowns

CamperUK have confirmed that they can get one but were waiting for the prices to be sent through, we are hoping to order the Trecento 465 TS if the price is okay and we can get a sensible exchange on our Motorhome.

Hi Mike, we went to CamperUK at Lincoln last year looking for a Geist and they said Geist were no longer making caravans for the UK because of the euro exchange rate. I would be interested to know what prices you are given for them getting you a Burstner. I presume the caravan will be a European layout (ie door on right hand side instead of left and continental 2 ping sockets inside?)

Could you keep us posted with how you get on please?
