Does anyone carry bikes on the back of the Caravan, we are looking to buy something like the Bailey Pegasus or similar but the dealers say that they would not fit a rack and that Baileys say that it should not be done.

I'm wondering why they are saying this, is it because the back is not strong enough to take the weight which is a bit worrying if they are.

We have seen loads of bikes on Dutch and German vans and also on some UK ones.

Anyone done it and on which make.

Most Swift caravans have mounting blocks built in for the fitting of rear cycle racks. I think the exception is where fitting a rack would block an escape window. There are a couple of disadvantages in that putting bikes on the van will eat into the payload allowance and of course careful loading would be required in order to maintain stability. Having said that many caravans used to have rear kitchens including the fridge and oven and I reckon that would have been a lot heavier at the rear than a couple of lightweight bikes!
