Hope someone can help.  We bought a Swift Challenger 540 earlier this year and have had some great times touring. Unfortunately I keep having to change the brass pressure plate on the jockey wheel.

When we bought the caravan we paid for a pneumatic jockey wheel and am wondering whether the supplier has fitted the right one as I have today intslled my third pressure plate!

Thanks in anticipation

Hi piffy57, and welcome to the forum. I've got the same 'van as you, and on a number of occasions, the complete jockey-wheel assembly has dropped down whilst travelling, no matter how hard I screwed it up.(Not the inner part, the whole assembly). This may be the reason you asked the question. To overcome it, I bought a half-length of down-pipe in B & Q, cut 9" or so off it, and then cut it down the 9" length. I now "wrap" it around the shaft of the j/w every time I connect up, and have had no more trouble with it. Never thought of it being the pressure-plate, and just assumed that it may have been grease on the shaft, but after thoroughly cleaning it, it continued to fall - until my B & Q solution.

Check the pressure plate, the clip at the top has bent on two occasions and snapped on another occasion.

We use a mover with the caravan and thought it might be too much pressure on it. The plates cost £4-99 each.

If you remove the jockey wheel you will be able to see the pressure plate and check it.

Any one else out there got problems..............it may a Swift problem!!!
