Hi all!

As a member of Hospital Radio Maidstone I'd like to pick your collective brains....

HRM has just purchased a nearly-new purpose-built events trailer to replace our VERY old caravan which we use to help us raise funds by doing PA's and the like.

We collected it from Cumbria last weekend and it's a fabulous bit of kit- however it's been left standing for a while prior to us buying it and is a bit grubby externally, covered in general dirt, muck and mildew.

Could anyone suggest the best way to clean it down so it gets nice and sparkly ready to be re-signwritten and re-fitted hopefully in time for an official launch next Spring at the annual Hospital Broadcasting Awards which takes place in our town in April?

Thanks

If anyone is interested in what we do we're on the web: www.hrm.org.uk

or on Facebook: Hospital Radio Maidstone

I would try washing it with Fennicks (is that how its spelt?) shampoo this removes algae and road grime. Made especially for caravan use.

For the mildew, if its on canvas you will be stuck with it as it never cleans off totally, however a very weak solution of Milton will kill off the mildew. Be aware that milton is a bleach.

I'm sure others will have more suggestions.

Carefully pressure washing might be an option if you know what you are doing, but there is always the risk that you may cause some damage to seals in doing so and cause a leak!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Considering it's for a good cause, why not take it to your local Lorry dealership such as DAF, Scania or Volvo, tell them what it's for & ask them if they'll wash it for you. They normally have a steam cleaning facility on site or use a contractor close by because they'll be preparing lorries for test regularly & they'll have all the cleaning stuff there to clean it up for you.
