Just come back from our final week away this year, not because we don't like winter 'vanning, just work etc wont allow it, had have got a list of stuff to buy/fix/improve before next year, so got me wondering...
Whats on your winter to do/buy list for your van?
Mine is install extra speaker at the back of the van for the stereo.
Install sat dish connection point.
Buy an LCD TV.
Work out why, after a new non-return valve the hot water is still backfeeding.
Add extra socket at the front end of the van.
Upgrade/update interior eyeballs and 240V lights.
Possible (if time/funds allow) new curtains and cushion covers.
Buy new Battery, this one has properly died this week...
Usual clear out and deep clean.
Look into a new/better control panel for 12V stuff.
get stuff for water fill valve and waste for serviced pitches next year
Service at beginning of Feb for the new year.
oh yeah and the OH want new chairs and table for the awning
mine is to wish that someone will give me a porch awning to do my caravan as the one that came with it wasnt what i call an awning!!!!,and i will need to get a top notch system to do my tv,we seem to get bad reception everytime we go anywhere, dont think the mountains help!!,hubby doesnt think we need tv but he forgets when he is off fishing for about nine hours i might get a tad bored,
also need to do a switch for outside electrics, this is needed for heating an awning or our electric grill,
first and foremost though is a caravan cover to protect all our hard work so early request to santa
Hi small Al there is no such thing as a part time camper everyone does it at their leisure and who knows one day you maybe in their position where you can only go when their work/kds/finances etc allows so please dont mock as I thought we were all campers and did it for our enjoyment as and when possible.
Floor delamination repair is the main thing. Try to source a sheet of aluminium from the roof of a scrap caravan to repair damage to the N/S/F wall. (luckily it's a flat area so a roof panel should be OK).
On the luxury side I'm going to look at installing a TV power/sat dish socket at the rear of the van so we can watch telly in bed... And on the subject of bed, we leave the rear seating area made up as a bed, so I intend looking for a proper matress. There are loads of bed manufacturers in this area so maybe I can get a made-to-measure matress made.
Nothing really except and clean and a warm every few weeks whilst in storage, but it does get used all year so jobs tend to be whilst on site, where i can use Electricity etc.
I am one of those alleged 'part time' campers who has now put the caravan away for a few months so I can catch up on a few jobs at home. I take the majority of my leave from work in the summer months as I don't want to go away in the winter. I hate the fact it gets dark so early and to be honest I get bored easily if I am couped up in the van.
I have had a Remoska on my wish list for the past few years but I can't decide if I really need one or if it is just going to be another expensive gadget that I rarely use.
Simon we got a made to measure foam mattress made to measure from Ace Foam, just google them. 5inch Firm foam 1 inch soft foam. Must admit their sevice was great and mattress fits perfect.
Thanks for that Murphsmum! I'll bear that in mind if I can't get anything via the back door of one of the many bed and mattress manufacturers in the local area (Batley / Dewsbury / Mirfield).

I had this problem. For me, it was nothing to do with the non-return valve. The Truma housing had cracked during last winter and was therefore no longer airtight. I had stupidly left the filter in place and it froze & expanded. Needed a whole new housing - problem solved now.n Don;t lose any hot water at all.

hope it isnt that...
Its not losing mutch, and what it is loosing is going back into the aquaroll (the pump pipe gets warm so presumably that)
if you are using the water its fine, its only if its been stood for say 5 or 6 hrs, and it gurgles and spits for a min or so.
