Well the only quibble here seems to be the length of time taken, but then with workshops full it does take time to get vans in. I have to book an annual service some four months in advance!! Unacceptable as the delay is for the OP there are practicalities involved.
Now, the alternative. Using normal contractual rights under consumer law the OP would have to proove that they did not cause the problem to get it mended under Sale of Goods legislation. Now that really can be an up hill task some four years after purchase. So much easier with that additional benefit of a warranty.
Still Rune, horses for courses. Tell the truth I hate the extra contractual rights a warranty gives me. It means I have no chance of an argument over whether the job gets done.
