We  had an awning trashed in a gale, as did brother and sister in law, there van had a ding too, ours did not. Subsequent insurance claims.I would be loath to risk it.

Don't think I would even want to tow given current forecasts.

Parking in the lee of the wind is not always guaranteed to minimise damage!  We had a sunncamp ultima ripped by some strong winds, right along the awning channel.  However, the caravan next to us had a more substantial awning, and it pulled the awning channel clean off. At least we had no caravan damage and only lost the cost of the cheap ultima tent style awning.
