Hi Guys

Wandering if I can pick your brains again!

My husband and I have reacently brought a larger van and therefor we are needing to find a new home for our current lunar van. Our plan had been to sell the van with a number of accessories that we no longer need. We were aware of there being bit of damp in the back panel in the bathroom as this was picked up on the service in March this year, but we knew it was fixable.

Only this weekend on clearing it out and sorting it out to take pics etc hubby went round with a damp tester and we found more than we were expecting, some of this could be because we had yet to get dehumidiers in and it was raining outside but we know are unsure on what to do, prob cause we are too honest for our own good but we have been caught out before and don't like the feeling of it so would hate to do this to others.

The only options we can see it maybe keep selling it but we don't feel 100% sure on this one, or look for places that buy any van and see what we can get, my view if we do that is to keep the awanings etc that we were going to sell with the van and sell them seperatly.

I would love your advise on what to do or if you know of places (ideally in hampshire) that would either buy the van or use it for scrap?

Many thanks in advance.

Em x

Hi, i would advertise on ebay as the caravan needing some TLC and be honest, sell the spares you have separately, you will get more money this way.  There are a couple of smaller dealers in Hampshire (Harris Caravans at Liss) to name one, that sell to the cheaper end of the market, they may purchase it from you or there is a caravan breaker in Gosport, M Glanville, but you will not get as much money from these as you will a private sale.

We sold our damp caravan on ebay a couple of years ago and were honest about the damp we new about, the couple we sold it to were happy and paid in cash no problem for it.

People are always looking for a project/bargain but if you could keep it until the New Year you will get a better price.

Put it on ebay with no reserve & make clear buyer collects & pays cash. Its best to be honest & state it has some damp because this is the first question you will be asked by potential bidders, anyway.

Keep all the gear & sell this on ebay in the spring when there is demand. It would be better to sell 'van then as well but presumably you want it out of the way.

Certainly don't scrap it - there's a trailer in it if nothing else. Put it on ebay with an honest description but without the accessories.

Someone will be glad of it.

Just be honest - I wouldn't be put off buying a van that needed some TLC as long as I knew about any problems first. Give an honest description and take good photos. Start the price low and don't be greedy if you're going to put a reserve on it.

Sell any other equipment seperately as you'll get more money for them this way, rather than selling as a job lot.

thanks all for your advise I so love having some where to get honest advise. I will speak to hubby about it later and see what he says but think will go for ebay and be honest, which is what we want to be at the end of the day.

We know what it is like to buy something and it not be up to scratch (when we brought it we were told the on bord charger thing worked and it didn't) and we don't have the heart to do that to others.

And other than the damp and some new curtians (the originals are still on and it is a 1993 van) it is in good nick.

Unfortuantly we do need to sell asap as we need the drive way back and the other van is in our storage spot and can't afford two spots.

Once again thanks so much guys you are the best x

Hi

I was going to say sell it now because people are on the lookout for projects for over winter and then ready for the new season.  There are many people with not a lot of useable income who will see your 'van as something to work on over winter without a lot of initial outlay and spend a little money and more time over the coming month's with the intention of it being ready for the summer.

If they are like my dh they have very good intentions but alas they very rarely come to fruition lol.

Be honest and if it was me i'd be asking what the meter readings said in what area's so keep those readings handy :)

You should get more on ebay for your 'van than the dealer offered and even if you don't then at least you can be happy in the knowledge that you have helped someone out :)

I know everyone is saying sell the other stuff seperately, but thinking as a buyer here, the 'van that has extra's included is more likely to sell than the one without...

Good Luck :)

I would sell it through the classifieds/local paper etc being honest about the damp and offering that if they buy all the accessories too you will give one of the accessories half price or something. It will be far easier to deal with one person and transaction and if you are going to pay for an ad in the paper etc you only want to do it once. Good luck.

Hi all first time post for me on this forum.
Travelled 280 mile round trip to view a bailey Senator Arizona at Harris caravans in Liss today after speaking to the owner and the salesman who both assured me the caravan was mint and I would not be disappointed.
How wrong they were it was damp, dirty and obviously a very well used example, it was advertised as a 2008 and it was a 2007 with a major damp problem that had been poorly repaired, which the salesman denied any knowledge of being evident, stating the caravan had been fully checked and was in top condition.Obviously has not idea of how to check a caravan.
A complete waste of time and money on fuel and bridge tolls back to Wales.
I was fooled by the low price and sales pitch, the full service history did not exist and neither did the mint condition caravan.
As the old adage says if it looks to good to be true !!!!!! don't waste your time with this less than honest company.
