These guys do rentals but you would need to have a towbar with full electrics to do the towing, unless you planned to hire the towcar:

We had a towbar fitted, did the CC towing course and hired a van for a weekend before buying our van - we reckoned it would be better to spend a few quid to find out we didn't like it than to spend loadsa quid buying a van and then finding out we didn't like it.

We hired a 4 berth Sterckeman from http://www.freedomcaravans.com/ as they are local to us. Had a great weekend away in it, never looked back.

There are a British couple who hire out touring caravans in Cahors, France. Their company is called 'Quercy Caravan Hire France', very nice people and helpful.

We did a "try before you buy" and used Costock Caravans in Nottingham (http://www.costockcaravans.co.uk/).  I'd only towed a trailer when we booked but I did the caravan cub course just before we went (well worth doing). 

We liked that the tourer came with everything on it (cooking utensils, crockery etc) so we could hitch and go with out sleeping bags and clothes in the car and go for the week without thinking about what we needed to cook on and things.

The owner went through everthing about setting up before we left including how to erect the awning, set up the water and toilet etc. and made sure we were comfortable before we left.

Needless to say we enjoyed it more than we ever expected and bought our 'van within a week of returning!  Best money we've ever spent!
