Hi .. I have two 4.5 kg calor butane bottles in the shed and plan is to exchange them for two propane of same bottle size, as we intend to use the (yet to be delivered) new caravan in the colder months.
Question is are these bottle sizes acceptable for caravanning, or will we be changing them out too frequently, I'd like to keep a light load in the van (Elddis 302) and also two bottles so I can have a full spare to hand. With having the two butane bottles to start with I thought this is the way to go, but I never see the smaller bottles mentioned only the 6 kg size.
Thanks in advance
J B

Yep if its weight you are concerned about then you need the Calor Lite cylindars. Propane is a lot hareder to freeze in winter than Butane. Just make sure that your regulator is ok for any change of gas.

I have a 6Kg, lasts me around a year, not everywhere stocks the smaller propane.
TBH, I rarely carry a spare bottle, unless I know its getting low, if I do need the spare, that is only a small one, and the empty gets re-filled when I get home.

Calor lite bottles also have a gauge: you can either tell how full your bottle is, or check your van is gas tight.
Worth its weight in gold, if you forgive the pun

the weight of a 6kg full is 22 lbs or 10 kgs.we can now carry two bottles due to the new weights.red bottle only at the present.do not think i have seen one with a gauge yet i must check. just a thought i wonder why they need two types of gasses for a caravan, must be cheaper to use one is it not? A Calor dealer will take a 4.5 kg blue bottle in exchange for a 6kg CalorLite propane, I would swap for that size.

reading my own link,if you have a 4.5 kg cylinder you would need to pay money extra to exchange for a 6 kg less part of a deposit on the old bottle??? ------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

So do I presume it is better to go directly to Calor to swop to a Lite, than at the local builders merchants?

OOOOH! They have changed it! That was sneaky! Mind you it is a while since we swapped ours. Think it was right when they first came in.
