Went to mooch around a dealer today. The vans weights were only "ex-works" and most were in "cwt."
How is a punter meant to work out a safe towing weight with that sort of information? Do I have to take a laptop with me next time and hope for wi-fi?

You could apply the same comment all over the place. An example would be that we buy fuel in litres but still drive in miles. Its part of the stupidity of being half imperial measurement and half metric. All we need is a government brave enough to take us completely metric.(I firmly believe going back to imperial is completely out of the question)  I have no idea how much my car weighs in cwt.

But you would think it was in the dealers interest to make a major purchase as straightforward as possible.

My pet hate is builders merchants and other "also to trade" suppliers - who price things without VAT - Why..... you can't buy it without paying the VAT!

Like supermarkets who quote similar items in different measures amking it difficult to determine the cheaper variety.

They show the price without vat because the tradesman will be able to claim the vat back therefore pay only the net price without the vat.
