Am I the only person who has decided not to renew my membership to the Caravan Club? You would think so if you consider the number of emails and letters I've received since October.
We joined both clubs to see which best met our needs. but after a year we decided to not renew our Caravan Club membership as we did not feel it was of any great benefit to us. However, cancelling seems to be harder than we thought. I called them a good month prior to the renewal date to say we wanted to cancel our membership, but they still sent me a letter to say they were taking the payment in October. I called them again and wrote to them, and to make double sure I cancelled the direct debit, but they have pestered us ever since with letters and emails to say the direct debit has been cancelled and we need to call them to update the details. Despite calling to say we no longer want to be members they still persist on sending out further letters.
I could understand this behaviour had I not paid my gas bill on time, or not advised them of our intention to cancel, but I called them a good month prior to renewal date and several times since.
Has anyone else tried to cancel their membership only to be pestered in this way?
When I cancelled two or so years ago, as I no longer needed to keep my caravan on one of their storage sites, I wrote a letter with a minimum of a months notice and received a confirmation letter a few days later saying all had been actioned and the membership would not be renewed.
Your not alone !
I cancelled as well because of there booking system, it is a complete farce every year, also people block booking weekends and not turning up !
Every warden I speak to agrees with me, so this year I just cancelled the direct debit.
I will miss Clumber Park but hey there is many good sites out there !!

just our experience,i have discovered a lot of these letters are automatically generated by computer as the details have not been cancelled off the records.give them another ring.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
They have experienced a LOT of problems with their new computer system. I understand it is called "Genesis"
I did suggest to them that "Genesis" could be an omen for a lot more revisions and they should hurry along to the "Revelations" system but the irony appeared to be lost on them.
I know for a fact that the centre regestration has been in turmoil with the new system which was phased in over a year ago.
Must admit we're considering whether to renew after 25+ years. Just been looking at 2011 charges, and even allowing for the VAT rise they seem to have gone up by about 8%. It seems the sites lost £229k in 2009 despite occupancy being up by 10%, however the club still made a surplus of £4,421,000 after tax.
On a different note, they do seem to have taken some action against some of the habitual block booking/not turn up brigade, according to this months magazine.

Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
I went onto their website today to have a look a summary of a site where we had an interest. Seems you can only do this if you book unless I am overlooking a link that takes you to a description of the site and the layout.
If you put the name of the site you want in the search box at the head of the home page, then choose the site you want from the items offered, you are taken to a full description of the site, plus the option to download the site details sheet and also site plan. Neither booking nor logging-in is required for this.

If you are getting e-mails you must have signed up for e-mail notification. You may have needed to turn that off before cancelling your membership!
David
I did sign up, but as I've now spoken to them 5 times and written to them twice to cancel the membership they should not be sending me any reminders that its due for renewal and asking why I have not yet paid. Its easy to turn if off and even set all their messages to Junk but they still keep sending them.

Thanks. I wonder why they don't have a drop down box that allows you to select a site in an area and then to view details about the site befroe you book instead of going about it back to front?
