Walking to Levisham from our campsite on the whitby road and having a wonderful meal before walking back across the moor in the Spring.

Watching the beavers in the river in the early morning at Riviere sur Tarn.
Seeing vultures - "vultures everywhere" in the Tarn gorge.

Catching a very brief glimpse of dolphins in the Moray firth in October. Waking up to minus 6 and a silver white world at Blair Athol. Driving through the breathtaking beauty of Killicranky Pass in all its Autumn glory.

Collecting our fabulous (but HUUUUGE) van after being badly let down by a rat of a woman with less than 2 weeks to go before we were off to France.

The welcome we received at Camping Les Gorges du Chambon in France. It was like we were part of the family that had been missing for years and had just returned.

The warm welcome was only the start as the friendliness continued for the whole holiday.

I've been on sites where the staff were friendly but this was just different and a little bit special.

Some people are just all show. I don’t mind that if the show is worth watching but ….

Driving 160 miles south on my own.. not a big deal for some ppl, I know. Driving back as well, thru major rain floods, spray the lot and getting home safely. Nothing about towing will ever phase me again, now I know I can do it!

Walking on the beach near Allonby in Cumbria, just as the sun was going down.

A vintage year crowned with our best ever vanning trip to Brittany for 3 weeks in July/August.  Why?  Not the absolute best site, not the biggest pitch, we've been to better locations, but so fantastically good; just the wife, daughter (16), son (10) and me and we so got on and had fun - truly magic.  Where? Sorry not telling!

Our first holiday in a caravan! We camped in our Outwell Bear Lake 6 tent, with trailer, in June in Hungary and Austria(Jodl was fab - thanks snooks!) but sadly had to race 1000mls in 2days to get back to Plymouth when my Father was taken seriously ill and subs. passed away.
We had the ferry already booked for late Aug. so just went for it, and got the caravan.
First time my husband had towed we did 3000mls in 6 wks, in the Dordogne, the Picos in n Spain, then Asturias, down to Salamanca and Burgos, back up to French Pyrennees, back to Dordogne, on to the Isle de Re, then on to Mont st Michel, then to the Normandy beaches, stopping at Baie du Somme and then home!! Not bad for 1st timers!
Can't wait for 2011 we're booked on ferry for 2mths May to June to do East Germany, Czech Rep. Slovenia Austria and anywhere else that takes our fancy!
Many thanks to all the experienced caravanners we met this year who were so helpful and friendly - especially all the French who tried to help us pitch the full awning - which had the wrong poles and no instructions, as we later found out!

Enjoying caravanning, realising what an expensive hobby it is and spending the family’s inheritance before they can get their hands on it!

Sitting outside our van in the Tarn Gorge in France on a warm June evening with a glass of wine in hand watching a pair of nesting eagles overhead hunting there pray.

Spectacular sight in a real nice part of France.   Roll on next June

Me spotting our original ideal caravan on Ebay and spending the whole week persuading OH to buy it.  Only 1 day after picking it up taking it down to Chertsey for our first ever caravan holiday and us collapsing in bed at 11.30pm having had no tea after first set up.  2nd trip ever trying to make it from Cheshire to Lake Garda in 2 days - we did it but wouldn't repeat the exercise!!!  Waking up in Italy with a raging storm coming in off the lake and peering out of window to see our Bradcot awning bouncing up and down because we had left the front panels out and had been fooled into shall we say light pegging by the fantastic weather.

You could say that we have had a pretty steep learning curve in our first year of caravanning but at least we survived it and can look back and laugh - looking forward to a more experienced 2011!!!
