Ok so after much thought we have decided on the layout we want on a 6 berth twin axle van.
This being an end bedroom of 2 sofas with optional bunks over and the choice of a double bed too. A side bathroom with a separate shower cubicle.
We have a budget around the 10k mark.

The vans I have come up with so far are; Elddis crusader superstorm, Compass Rallye 636 and Sterling Elite Trekker.

Build quality is pretty important as we have 5 kids !

If anyone has any opinions on the above vans, good or bad I would be very grateful
Thanks in advance

I know Colin would go for the elddis Crusader as that's what he has been looking at.

I suppose I would say that you should go for the Elddis, but I am prejudiced, having one myself. At the end of the day kids are kids and I think with caravan build standard may not matter. Kick a football at the side long enough and dents appear. Maybe a motorhome would be the option if its about the strength of the build. Kids are more about guidance....do's and don'ts...but without adversely affecting the enjoyment of the caravanning experience!!!!

There are so many factors to consider. What is available in your area may be the significant factor at the end of the day. Decide on the model and then find you have to go a few hundred miles to buy one, remember that you will probably have to go all the way back there each time you want servicing or warranty work doing. If you do buy from a distance away just check that a local dealer can actually do servcing/warranty work. Read any warranty and you will see that it says that you have to go back to the original dealer. That may not be quite convenient and will add to your caravanning costs.

Developing a relationship with your local dealer can be beneficial in the long run.

Then there is cost. Your ideal may be a Crusader but if the Sterling is cheaper and has more bits and pieces thrown in that can sway your view. See what is the best financial package you can get. From what I remember kids are expensive and I never had 5!!!! A free full length awning could be of enormous value.

If its second hand you are after then that will really be down to what is available at the time.

Get it this week and you can save 2.5% VAT (from a dealer) which is a fair amount on a caravan.

If buying second hand privately, build quality may not be as important as the way in which the seller has looked after the van and can show you the service history. This post of mine may help from page 2 of a thread (second post down)
