Hi All,

Been reading quite a lot in here over the last few weeks and now taking the plunge in making my first post.

My name is Peter, from N.Ireland and only started caravaning last year for my first season. We were given a Lunar Delta (1980's) which was beige with brown stripes but a fantastic van! I loved caravaning after thinking I would hate it. My wife had always gone as a child and I had never been...couldnt understand why people would want to camp near each other... etc etc.

Anyways I am a keen fisherman and enjoy the outdoors so decided that caravaning was for us and to take the plunge into buying a new (to us) van.

I was lookign at originally only spending £2k.... but when I looked around at that price. I was getting an old van which to be honest was not as good as our ancient Lunar !! Even though younger etc. So with my arm up my back we upped our budget and off we went to look at vans with dealers all over NIrl. We saw some lovely vans and experienced some serious sales persons telling us the woes of second hand vans and trying to sell me £15k vans.. My wife very interested but there was no way I was spending that amount!!!!!!!!!!

From looking at so many we decided we needed a 5 berth van. End bedroom and something newer than 2001.

Most of the ones I was looking at were yr2000ish and tbh looked a bit tired although good layouts...

We then came across a Adria Altea 562 uk which suited us perfectly. Slightly more than I was wanting to spend but it is immaculate, awning etc etc etc. So we took the plunge and bought it.

Problem is I then look it up and I cant find details about it anywhere ? Which has concerned me. I can find reviews for 542, 502, 532 etc but 562Uk I cant see anywhere. Should I be concerned or can anyone put my mind at rest.

Prob should have researched it before buying but you know when you just get a feeling that your getting a great deal you just go for it. Well thats what we did and I am a bit nervy now :/

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Hi what it should say somewhere on the body in a decal (nr the back what model it is) We have the Adria Altea 542 uk (2008), with two bunks in the rear with a side single dinette and a front wrap around seating area. The Kitchen and Toilet are obviously in the middle. The entrace door is UK side at the front.

Adria do a wide range of vans with the Adora range having a 642 in it line up. Can you post a picture.

However saying that we have not had a problems with our Adria and is also the case with amny other owners on the forum.

Try giving Adria a ring in the UK they might be able to shed light onto it.

Hello peter welcome to the site, I might suggest that it is a dealer special,(one that is the same as one of the other models but with extras so they give it another name/number). This is probably unlikey though because I don't know of many Adria dealers.

I wouldn't worry, just enjoy your new van.

Welcome to the forum!  I'd also say that ringing an Adria dealer or Adria themselves would be your best bet.  Did you get all the manuals & documentation etc... with it?  Is there anything on there that gives you a clue?  It could be a discontinued model but they'd still have all the details archived (technical spec etc...) if you ask.

Hello again and thanks for the welcome and replies!!
I picked up the van this evening! Turns out it was an Altea 542UK after all! It is immaculate inside and out! They had an oven fitted to her a battery in and a bigger water heater. I got the awning as well. All the documentation was in order too! They misadvertised it as a 2006 then we saw the purchase receipt which was dated 2007!! The seller just laughed and said well there you go even more of a bargain for you :)
There is still 6 years left of the damp warranty and the van has been serviced every year.
Really can't wait to get out in her !
The only thing I need to get for it is a new water pump which is supposedly about £30

Excellent and glad it turned out ok. Hope you enjoy your 542 uk as much as we do. Its really easy to tow and very stable, and you don't see very many of them on site, so you are infact in an elite club.

An yes its about £30-50 for a water pump attachment.

Peter.....welcome to the happy world of tin tenting. you'll love it. The van sounds great. We have a 1999 5 berth Abbey Cabaret called Bertha - there don't seem to be many Cabarets about, so she's always easy to find on site because of her cheeky Lisa Minnelli top hat decal!

Has your van got a name yet?

Well 1st dilemma had cropped up!!
It appears that the dealer that sold this caravan to the original owner is no longer the local Adria dealer. When I was speaking to them I said that I believed that since they sold the van they would still look after the warranty? (can anyone confirm if this is correct?). He then said that he didn't think the warranty was transferrable! I said no I'm pretty sure it is (can anyone confirm this please). In the next breath he told me that the new Adria dealer might look after this and to contact them.... So that's what I did.... Gave them the serial number and they said they would get back to me... That was Tuesday and still no reply...
Any advice will be much appreciated.

Peter -

As you bought from a dealer did they not offer a warranty on the van as a part of the sale? In any case they are responsible for any defects in the short term as your contract is with them.

With respect to the damp warranty, this may or may not be transferrable and may come with "strings attached", like having to have van serviced and checked by an Adria dealer every year, this is probably why they referred you. Do you have contact details for Adria themselves and a service book with all the stamps in it?, if so I would contact them direct.

HTH

Hi Tony, I bought the van privately.
As you rightly say the van has been annually serviced by the original dealer every year to keep the damp warranty in force. I don't mind getting it serviced every year to keep this in place tbh or is it a waste?
As a matter of interest how long do Adria usually provide warrantys on new vans?

IMHO it is worth getting a van serviced whether or not it is in warranty, particularly if you have a servicing company who are good and who you trust - and particularly, if you are like me who takes about sixth months to get around to a job, and even then I don't feel secure in the knowledge that I have done it especially well.

It is very important to keep the servicing up to date as if there are ever any problems with the 'van your warrenty is invalidated by it not being serviced regularly.  After the warrenty is out of date then it is up to you whether you get it serviced or not.  Normally manufacturer's will insist that it is done by someone they recommend so when they do get back to you don't forget to ask about the service :)
