I have recently lost my keys and details of my Milenco wheel clamp (many years old) so decided to angle grind it off, I was looking to grind away for some time, imagine my shock to find that within four minutes I had removed both lower arms!!!!
Now I don't know if they have improved the steel quality over the years but I am now looking for a product that will put up a bit more of a fight.
Any suggestions.
Incidently I also have an Alko wheel lock and a hitch lock plus a a chain through the chassis padlocked to an underground construction, but would still like to put something on the other wheel.
We have the standard milenco clamp and really regret not getting the Milenco mega instead which is ideal for storage situations rather than touring and much tougher. Its much better because the arms are filled with concrete so they can't be burnt off or easily ground off - this makes them much heavier & I think from memory its around 30kgs hence quite a load for touring. We also have an alko lock on the other side and a hitchlock which we use for touring and then add the Milenco when its stored on our drive. We know that the Milenco could be whipped off in no time but at least it will slow them down by those 4 minutes!!!!
I think OH is looking at getting jsb hublocks for next winter!
When some scumbags visted my house early on March 1st 2007 to steal our caravan, they removed my wheel clamp by what must have been something like a pair of stilsons & a steel tube, it was found in my neighbours hedge twisted up like a pipe cleaner.
I understand they've now filled the tube with concrete but I won't ever have another of them, I use an Al-Ko lock now, hitch the van to an RSJ concreted in the ground, two leglocks(Which are easy to get over) plus I remove the jockey wheel & its clamp.
The only device I have seen that is guaranteed to stop them in their tracks is the JSB hublock. Not easy to use though as it involves removing the wheels.

The real sad thing is that as you where grinding away I bet not one neighbour stuck his head around the corner to check it was you cutting the wheel clamp off!

against a grinder like that... not much better as one of those discs will rip through concrete
Maybe maybe not - "The concrete mix was developed for this application using a complex combination of hard materials specifically for this wheelclamp. This design combination gives unbeatable performance against hydraulic cutting, Oxy Acetylene burning, Plasma and Tungsten Carbide cutting equipment.
It has an integrated award winning high security lock with over nine million different combinations and is supplied with three keys. The lock is both drill and cutter resistant and the internal locking mechanism is shielded by 23 mm of steel complete with hardened inserts."

If you require security while the van is in storage, then I would definatly recommend the JSB Hublock http://www.jsbhublock.co.uk/indexhtml.html no van with one fitted has ever been stolen.Allthough no good for touring
Thanks for the responses, quite right no neighbours poked their heads out and as my van is parked in my garden I think maybe the JSB Hub Lock is the way I will go and use the Alko wheel lock when touring.
JSB Hublock would be a right pain to use if you have a disability or go touring nearly every weekend. If I was going away for a weekend I wouldn't fancy the hassle of taking the thing off, then fitting the wheel on before setting off. Enough to put you off caravanning! If you only use your caravan once or twice a year I suppose ti would not be too bad.

I am glad to hear that all six vans are still secure.
Only joking. They must be pretty rare though, although the ultimate deterrent. What I want to know is how many vans with alko secure wheel clamps have been stolen.
I bought mine when I found a traveler inspecting the hitch lock & wheel clamps on my van. When I challenged him he calmly replied "I taught you might be wanting to sell it"IIt takes me aprox 10/15 min to get the wheel from the shed jack up remove the Hublock & fit the wheel on the van
You just need to check with your insurer that they will allow JSB hublocks as technically this means that you no longer have the standard insurance requirement of a wheelclamp on your caravan whilst the hublocks are in use. On the JSB website there is a list of approved insurers, mine wasn't on the list so I emailed my insurer, who then emailed me back to say i could use them & I just forwarded the email to JSB who then added it to the list.
However, after a particularly expensive caravanning year we decided to wait until next year, but as our caravan is covered on our drive not in use between Oct - March then it makes good sense for us to have something like this.
