Colour coded wax (or any good old fashioned car wax) lifts the black marks off really well, almost no effort at all. I give mine a good wash (roof aswell) to get rid of the road grime, then give her an all over coating of wax once or twice a year. Waxing the roof is hard work, but seems to cut down on the black stuff that causes the streaks in the first place and therefore cuts the work in the long run.
The colour coded wax can be expensive, £10-15 in some places, but if you shop around in some of the cheapy shops, you can normally pick it up for £3-5 and one bottle normally does the van once or twice.
I dont think the paint coating they give vans is any where near as good as cars, so s the vans get older, the paint on the roof seems to get slightly pitted, which then means the black marks seem to be more.
