Hi everyone, I am new to this andcould do with some help please.
We have a 2008 caravan and it has now developed damp. This is not covered under the warranty because we have not had it serviced.
Anyway, I need to get an independant report to say it is manufacturers fault but I have contacted numerous companies who just say they cant say that. I know it has been done, so any recommendations for assesors would be really great
I am taking that route and have got trading standards involved but I am struggling to find an independant assessor to assess where the leak is coming from and find out if it is a manufacturers fault.
Sorry to be a pessimist but I imagine this might be difficult - the dealer/manufacture will argue that they would have spotted the leak at a service and fixed it before it became a problem.
Good luck but I'd be prepared for a fight

Hi, This is one for Phil or the other lawyer members on this forum, You will need date you bought it,if new or secondhand, what make of van, what was said to you at time of sale by salesman,Eg. - It is free of damp/or gauranteed no damp, you should have a case, They will be along shortly.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
Book the caravan into a caravan service place for a normal service & damp test, then you will have a report. Get an estimate for cost of repairs. Contained in all that will be enough evidence to state that a 3 yr old caravan is damp, which should be the evidence you need.
Its fairly obvious that if a caravan of that age has damp then it is a manufacturing fault. I guess the only sticking point will be that had you had it serviced the damp would have been picked up earlier & repairs would have been less costly.
Possibly meet them halfway & agree to meet a portion of repair costs yourself. How bad is the damp, are you sure it has got into the structure?
how many times do we see a valuable item parked up with no cover fitted ? a good cover is only around £150. and helps so much with keeping the unit dry clean and tidy.
mine is Barn parked and its still covered against the dust (that can be worst than mould and moss growth). £50 cover or two to three days cleaning waxing etc etc several times a season.

Yes, that is exactly what I did with a 3 year old Lunar Saturn many years ago. I used Crossley Coachcraft to do to the service, damp test and provide an estimate of cost for the repairs.
Following the damp test and a phone call to Lunar, they agreed to repair the caravan. Despite the extensive repairs Lunar carried out, it was damp again within a couple of years. Ho hum ....
If keljo14 does ring the dealer/manufacturer, sentences that include phrases such as "Sale of Goods Act" and "merchantable quality" usually work quite well. They have to understand that you are serious & having the results of a damp test from a reputable & well known company such as Crossley Coachcraft will help with that.
have you had your gas appliances serviced in that time ??
just wondering for your safety
our van isnt covered as we see too many covers flapping in the wind causing damage to the vans
Under Sale of Goods Act you are covered as obviously the fault was there prior to purchase. As you have TS involved I am not sure what you are asking now.
