is it ever necessary to level  both wheels?

No...or at least not in in my experience and I would be surprised if it was. Once you put the spirit level down in the middle of the floor that indicates which side needs to go up.  

Thought about the milenco but the weight of it, and cost, just put me off.

Incidentally, levelling front to back I put the spirit level on the fridge. As its important that that is level to assist its working operation I try to make sure that it is level even if some other part of the floor is a bit off.

Anyone else find that after you level perfectly, when you put the spirit level somewhere else it looks not to be level?

Its the wife's job to clean that whilst I am enjoying my morning stroll with the Dog...am I bovered? Wine and beer in the fridge...does the fridge need to work correctly?....I rest my case

We have just invested in a Kojack levelling system.

The reason being that until now we have had to carry ramps and a jack in case of having to change a wheel. Why carry both when one will do both jobs.

The sockets which bolt onto the chassis have built in spirit levels so once these are properly set up, levelling side to side will be a doddle and with she who must be obeyed on the jockey wheel, I can watch the levelling fore and aft also.
