I suspect there is nothing on the market out there for this, but is any one aware of any way you can reduce the noise of rain hitting the roof of your van.
In every van I've ever been inside, the slightest spot of rain seems to be amplified in a van to sound like a tropical rain storm.
Even worse still is getting a pitch under a tree in a rain storm, when in the van, it sounds as if drops the size of golf balls are hitting the van.
Im considering taking ear plugs next time, which may have some added benefits connected to the wife and kids, but might also afford a good nights sleep.
I dont mind the sound of rain, to be honest, I think its far better in a tent, not sure what it is, but for me the sound of rain landing on the tent just sounds so nice, cant explain it really.
------------- If it wont move, try a bigger hammer.
Lol, nothing wrong with getting romantic about it.
I like the sound when I'm at home, we've got a Challet type house, and when the wet stuff comes down, the quite sound of the rain hitting the roof can send me off to sleep in seconds.
A bit different to the van at night where the sound is akin to climbing in tin biscuit box and sitting it in a shower on jet spray mode.
Agreed, way better than a tent though, where if your unlucky enough you get to feel as well as hear it.
I tent sometimes in the summer, they kids love it, but I'm carefull only when the weather is guarunteed. I woke up in the middle of the night in two inches of water a few years ago, never forgot it. Quite funny now, but not at the time.
I like the sound of rain to send me to sleep - but agree it amplifies the sound. We were away a couple of weeks ago and it sounded like continuous heavy rain, when I went outside it was only very light rain.
I'm with Fiona on this one...love the sound of rain on roof. Reminds me of childhood holidays in our caravan. I find it helps me get to sleep too! Even at home if its raining, I will open the bedroom curtains so I can see the rain on the windows...sad I know!
------------- 2026
Various weekends, weather and time permitting
April - Yorkshire and Yorkshire
June - Wiltshire and Oxfordshire
Autumn - North and Scotland
I like the sound of rain too. But rain is quiet compared with the sound of olives falling on the roof, or even worse, the hard fruits of a eucalyptus tree! The joys (?) of caravanning in Mediterranean countries!

Vanmaster caravans have a carpet like material on the roof I believe that reduces noise but don't know of anyhting that can be bought afterwards and added unfortunately. Have to agree with some of the others on here tho the rain sounds good.
I like so many other people like the sound of rain on the roof. For me, it makes me feel all safe and cosy but I do need the earplugs for oh's awful snoring!!
I, can remember when we had our van i loved the sound of rain at night ,I even some times went and sat in it out in the back garden my partner doesn't like it though ,we haven't had any rain in the cardinal but its a hard top so hopefully you never know
