Was looking at what we have got coming with our caravan and included in our package is a hitchlock, was wondering do we need a wheel lock when we are campsites? When we have it home we will have it in a (gold) secure storage?
thanks angela

If you have hitch lock & wheel lock you'll need to use both all the time - in storage & at sites otherwise your insurance won't cover you if the van is stolen. Same goes for an alarm or any other security device you declare to the insurance company. Insurance companies give discounts for each piece of security equipment so the more you have the cheaper your insurance will be.

best thing to do is ask the insurance what is required to cover you for the policy, anything less and you are not insured.ours requires a hitch lock and a wheel clamp at all times even on site.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Your insurers will have a minimum requirement of security devices & if I were you I'd make 100% sure they're on the van every time it's stationary & unhitched or when your outfit is left hitched & unattended.
I like to have as much as possible on our van, they've had one off our drive & they'll have their work cut out to get this one away.
I bought this months Caravan mag which isnt bad value at the min as it also includes a full copy of Go caravan too which is usually £3 plus on its own. It came with a 24 pg booklet called Caravan Security 2011 with pics of devices and a brief summary of why to buy etc. Inside the mag is a section on insurance where they list lots of insurance companies with the minimum security devices they require to insure you as well as other conditions. Quite useful imo.

I am pretty sure that our caravan club insurance states wheel clamp or hitchlock. So either or would suffice.
Ours is the same. They do insist that we keep ours on a Gold Cassoa storeage site though - but we do live in the 'Caravan Bermuda Triangle'!!
I checked with my insurance on what devices I needed to fit, and was advised nothing stipulated, but I've fitted several devices anyway. Better safe than sorry.
I've not heard of any vans going off of sites, though I've seen loads which dont have any locks on them whilst on site.
Did anyone else read an article in one of last years mags which said that a group of three or four chaps were caught and inprisoned for caravan theft. I think it said that they had been responisble for half of the thefts in the UK or something like that.
