some of you may remeber i am not he best passigner in the car when hubbys towing. infcat i am terrabel. even scotland and back last eyars did not help as mr sat nav sent us on the scenic rouit. so this yeras i cant wait to get away in there caravan but am allready dreading the trips there and back. on of our big trips is to devon from scotland. hubbys not bother about what time we go and the site were staying on doesnt have nay rules on what time you arrive so I was thinking that traviling overnight might be better no rush hours or loads of trafic to deal with what does everyone thinks day or night trip

nothing wrong with traveling overnight, just dont get there too early we did once and it was a long wait to get in.just lucky i found a bacon butty van.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
we can go strats on the site as its like a rally feld for us racers so even if we turn up at 5am its fine. I am so bad as a passinger i am hoping overnight will be better for me and hopefully the dogs aswell they should sleep longer inbetween stops at night

A lot of members travel overnight down to Devon and Cornwall, there is a lot less traffic, most who attend the Chy Carne Meet travel overnight, and a lot use this link to find Supermarkets for fuel, they are a lot cheaper than Motorway services prices. Sorry forgot to put in the link.

If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Wendy, Devon from Scotland [you dont say where] is a hike. Can you not break the journey? Your not going to complete that trip during night time hours alone.

Fallenangel, is your hubby happy with the concept of driving over night? If he is not used to night driving it is all too easy to loose concentration as tiredness and boredom kick in on what is quite a boring journey (mostly M6 and M5). You don't say when you have the trip planned but I'd like to suggest a very early morning start about 1 1/2 hours before dawn. That will give you a good start in the dark and get you past Birmingham (or Bristol if it's in summer) before traffic builds up to manic levels. I did (with caravan) Bradford to Cornwall last September. Set off at 4:30am Saturday morning and arrived at 11:00. A nice and easy run between 50 and 60mph all the way to Bodmin. The only interruptions were toilet and fuel stops.

Totally agree with his insistence on a good "night's" sleep first and no last minute running around!
I've done the Manchester to Cornwall trip six times over the past 14-15 years; every time we've done it exactly like your hubby says (except our trip has always started Friday midnight) and it's been a doddle - but do make sure to have those couple of breaks ,and if he has half an hour to an hour sleep in them - even better!

When we were kids and my parents took us to devon in caravan we used totravel overnight, & when we went to new forest 2 years ago we went overnight. I deffinately prefer it.
