I can't understand why you would buy a tourer if you don't want to tour. If you want to stay in one place then why not buy a static.
Been there and done that! But when I had to give it up because my Mother was very ill, I found my £16K static (which I had had from new and had never been let out) was only worth £3K. They sold it just after for £14K.
At least if I ever decide to give up my seasonal pitch I can bring my tourer back home!
i had a static for 13 years and lost a lot of money, when i sold it,as id just got fed up with the site,i bought a tourer and toured, but found a great site about one and half hour from home, and decided to site it there, with the cost of diesel ive just sold my landrover for a corsa, and have just bought a new van,if i get fed up i can bring the van home unlike a static and a mate of mine will tow it for me,the site im on now dosent have any tourers or tents all the pitches are seasonal, its also an eleven month season.
We also had a tourer sited at Strathyre for a few years. Still love the area and still go up with the campervan. It was a 2 hour drive for us but well worth it. Another plus for siting a tourer, and something we did, was you still have the option to tow somewhere else. We took the van off to go right up North for a couple of weeks then brought it back and did so occasionaly for other holidays. Should add, in case anyone is wondering why then would we site a tourer, we liked the idea of having somewhere set up for most of the time with the added option of a change when required.
We live near Leeds and are trying Cornwall (about 360 miles), possibly to store it there too. The plan so far is about 2 1-week-plus holidays and about 3 long weekends.
Have toured with this 'van and previous ones for about 10 years mainly on Anglesey and Cornwall
Got a new car in November, same as the old one, but the newer version, same engine, but it tows 100kg less(?) so we can't fully load our 'van and have a chance of being legal, so we'll leave our 2 eldest (late teens) at home and take it down with our younger 2 for a couple of nights, leaving room in the car for stuff that normally goes in the 'van to get the weight down.
Next year we'll see, daughter maybe at uni, so we'll have less to take, so might be touring again (she doesn't seem as bothered about going with us so much now anyway - though we'd still like her to)
This of course all depends on things like petrol prices etc
Happy holidays

------------- Smile, it makes "em wonder what youve been doing!
We bought tourer from friend who also had static. They kept static for weekends sold tourer as not using much for holidays and figured the money saved on storage insurance for tourer would pay for 3/4 holidays per year in cottage.
We have their tourer now. Double use for us - firstly for main holidays hopefully 3/4 weeks a year around UK and aim to try Ireland, Isle of Wight even abroad eventually. It suits our needs for now as I have been unwell and this is only way I felt I could face leaving home - to go to another "home" I feel familiar with.
Secondly for a weekend break where we wouldn't need to tow every weekend , had storage and tow to pitch to make it easier and I could go alone as I can't tow (YET!!).
The site is 1 hour from our house not too bad on time or fuel costs as we go in my little car. Costs £250 pa storage and £11 per night hard standing £4 tow out each way (cheaper than taking big carjust to tow van out to pitch. He even levels up and puts legs down which is a great help to me I just do water, gas, electric, loo.
We can also stay to 4pm on Sunday no extra charge so long as we tell him in advance and no-one else needs pitch.
So far suits us and costs seem very fair, service is just what we want and enables us to have weekends without towing, I can go alone or with friend, and we can tow away when we fancy a different site now and again. Best of both it seems at moment.
We did a list of what we wanted then used search facility on here using map for sites 50 mile radius then contacted all sites with facilities that suited. We were very lucky to . get this site - someone just pulled out the week we needed the storage and its adult only just what we wanted!! The caravan fairy must have been helping us that week!!

I know we all have different requirements, but that does seem a long way to travel! We live near Leeds too, and have our caravan on a seasonal site at Brandesburton, which is approx an hour and a quarter's drive. That means we can get there on a Friday evening and not leave till late on Sunday. We like to try to get there at least one weekend in 3, plus odd weeks / bank holidays, though, so it needs to be fairly close! Maybe it's the Yorkshire blood, but I like to get value for money from my caravan and site!!
I certainly get my moneys worth from the site I am on in Cornwall, we use the van for weeks or even months at a time, if you are retired you don't have to snatch the odd weekend. There's so many places to visit in Cornwall you need more than the odd week.
