Hi all,

My last recent question was about difficulty in washing the caravan in storage but I have today bought a ladder at a really good discount which I think is ideal for reaching and cleaning the roof which will help at least in cleaning the most difficult part. Has anybody else ever bought or used these and are they any good?

Suggest you wrap some polystyrene pipe insulation around the bits of the ladder which lean against the van/, tape it on and it will be fine. Don't lean too far when working and make sure you are on solid level ground or have someone hold it while you work. Take the bucket up and place on roof while you work. Take care. (It's possible to walk/crawl on an Coachman roof - it's solid and strong. I emailed Coachman and they confirmed it's ok although not recommended (Health and /Safery?) but be careful .

I have got a teloscopic brush so I won't have to lean over and I will do what you suggest about warapping some insulation around the ladder where it meets the caravan roof. I know that you can stand on a Coachman roof but does this apply to a model as early as a 1999 which I have as I thought it was only the later models that had the stronger roof?

I just use a pair of step ladders i purchased from wickes
been using them with no problems , save all the hassel of putting them up against the van.

I have got step ladders but the storage where the caravan is kept is on stoney ground and the step ladders are very rickety and unsecure so for safety reasons I have bought the telescopic ladders as I think that it will be safer.

I use a multi purpose ladder the 13 to 1 type so the ladder never leans on the caravan it has stabiliser and good on grass

I have certainly stood on my '96 Coachman Mirage roof and scrubbed it very hard to remove years of ingrained grime and crawl around the rooflights applying a seal of mastic. Also regularly stood or kneeled on a previous '05 Amara roof to wash or polish it. No dents or damage as a result but stay well clear of the slopey bits.

Actually they look a good ladder Jeff. I admit I have only ever seen one once before which was folded up in someone's garage but never really took much notice. This type would also fit into the back of my estate car for transportation to the caravan storage. I will see how I get on with the one's I have bought first but certainly looks a good tool for the job.

Jeff we have the same as you as long as people remember the one that is like a platform takes up to 18stone .Whereas the others go up to I think about 23stone

I know a builder and he says the telescopic ladders are great.

I store my van near the coast, so have to clean mine onsite. For doing the roof & some minor repairs I purchased a set of these folding ladders last year.

They're lightweight so don't add too much to the payload & are very compact. I was quite surprised that they still felt quite rugged. I did get mine a little cheaper, but this is the cheapest I can find at the moment. Sorry about the black background, not sure how that happend!

I have a small folding pair of steps that live in the van/ These are also usefull when putting up the awning
