thanks for all your replys, as it was the first time i had used a cc club site and i had seen the pitching diagram in the office when booking in, i think these poeple were being greedy (ie wanted their own and some of their neighbours pitch) i just wanted to know if it was the done thing for other sites as i am used to just finding sites where ever i end up on holiday, i will probably use another cc site later in the year.
Please don't be put off by this bad experience. I think it was a case of inconsiderate people.
We use alot of CC sites and they all do vary in pitch size. We have just used Park Coppice in the Lake District and it was gorgeous but the pitches are all different and all hardstanding and only marked by a number post so it can be easy to encroach onto another pitch.
I would ask the wardens when you arrive on site - which way they prefer you to pitch, you can't go wrong then.
If you do feel like someone is encroaching onto your pitch, inform the wardens as they are there to make sure everyone is happy as they will want you to return again! Every site has rules - its only a few people that believe these are made to be broken.
Best of all - Enjoy!!!

Not only do some people think rules are there to be broken but that rules don't apply to them!
I thought that pitching with offside/centre of van to marker only applied to grass pitches as they aren't clearly defined (compared to hard standing pitches which are clearly defined).
No, we are at Burrs right now, on a hardstanding, and were told to pitch with centre rear of van to the peg. This is pretty common, and maintains the spacing and the privacy of adjacent campers.
We have the porch awning up, so have the car on the other side. Vans without awnings can have the car beside their door if they want. There is also about 3 metres of grass between each hardstanding, more in places, this means there is plenty of space around the van.
On some sites they ask you to put the van to the left, then awning and car, so it does vary.
I would agree, the OP encountered a very inconsiderate camper. I would have had words with them!
