Hi, just north of peterbro' is a truck stop called "Stibbington Diner" its a popular stop for people in cars too, just becarefull as you drive in its a bit uneven! But plenty of room, also at Peterbro' there is Peterbro' services, well sign posted just off the A1. A little further on on the A14 is Cambridge services, about just over half way between Alconbery and the start of the M11
If you are going A1/A14/M11 best one is Cambridge services on A14, it has plenty of caravan parking bays & easy access to fuel pumps. If you want to spend less, pass the services to next exit Bar Hill, there is a large Tescos there, plenty of room to park a caravan at back of car park if you want.
Hi Jssparks, we've done that exact journey a number of times. There is a good service station at Peterborough on the A1, easy to get onto and off in either direction. There are quite a number of caravan bays, but it is becoming more popular these days and can get full at lunchtime. It should be OK at 11am. There are picnic benches very close by to the caravan area. If the caravan bays are full, you can park up in the lorry park behind the garage. That never seems full. There are number plate cameras at the entrance, so should be reasonably secure.
Decided to use the Newcastle ferry this year for a change.
And when you get down the A1 a bit further, just where it becomes the A1(M) there is another services just off the roundabout that has a lorry and caravan park. There is a children's play area outside with picnic tables and a nice pond with ducks on. It has all the usual "refinements" of service stations lol i.e McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks etc. We live near it so when the kids can persuade us we take them. DD loves Starbucks coffee so when she needs a treat for doing well its a great place to take her :)
