I have read lots about the leisure batteries and how long they last for when not on a site with hookups. I am considering upgrading to 2 leisure batteries ( in paralell ) to increase the AH. Has anyone out there actually done this sort of thing, and if so, where was the second battery housed?
Looking forward to all kinds of responses, comments and oppinions ;-))
Hi davewardz, I think there was a member on here a few months ago was, wanting to do just that, think he did it, from the link that michael above posted, cant remember who it was or how he eventualy did it, he may see this and help with the location of the battery.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
Currently I have an 85AHC leisure battery and would expect about 2 to 3 days of lights and water pump use. I intend doublig the plate size with another 85AHC in paralell. This would guarantee me a minimum of 5 days (useful for fishing long weekends). The connections are easy, its where I put it that causes me concern as the battery locker is only capable of holding 1 battery.
The article you mention is brilliant. I have read it in depth. It certainly confirms my intentions, now to find a place to fit the extra battery.
While I'm here - newby to this site - how does your membership rating increase? I can't find a mention of it, do I have to sneak up on someone or maybe wrench theirs from their grip ;-))

------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

you can buy a battery box to fit under a bunk, not the best.warning it must be vented through the floor.your battery cables should be keep to a minimum and insulated against rubbing anywhere to avoid voltage drop and fire risk.as said the weight forward of the axle will reduce your payload and add to your nose weight.
Welcome to the site dave you will find it most useful, particularly people like Michael, tentz and the wizard, who have all answered many questions for me.
As for ratings it seems to be linked to posts and possibly dates as i got very excited when I was no longer a "standard member" after 100 posts!
Michael - yours must be wrong or have you gone back to the beginning after so many posts?
Possibly a silly question but why not just swap the batteries over when one runs low?
That way you can keep the second one in the car to save on load weight and no soldering is required. That's what I plan to do.
I only have single electrics on the towbar so I have a 85ah battery just to run the fridge when towing and I will put the 110ah battery in when I get to the site (probably after charging the first one with the mains hookup)
The 85ah battery only cost £20 as it is as new, but B grade from a supplier.
I intend to have loads of AHC available, allowing me the peace of mind to go to sites without EHU's (fishing & the likes) for 3 to 4 days at a time, lights, water pumps, radio and phone charging.
I have double electrics on the car, but I was intending getting the batteries charged via my house hook up prior to setting off.
Its all down to convenience I guess, I have 2 Butane gas bottles with a manual change over - belt & braces - peace of mind - comfort - gas always runs out when its raining, dark, you are the only one that knows how to sort it. When the gas goes out now, I close one tap, open another and refill the empty bottle when it suits me, if I end up with 2 dead bottles, I only have myself to blame.
I do understand your comments andI was considering what you suggested and I may still have to do what you suggest, it all depends on where I can locate the battery box.
Hi before we had a solar panel we managed 18 days with a 110 amp battery Without charging it we just used everything as normal that was two people having a shower every day and lights admittedly it was summer so the lights only got used for a couple of hours a night we don't take a tv which can be quite power hungry I was surprised how well the battery coped. We don't use ehu unless it's included in the site fees which has only been twice in 5 years we find now with a solar panel that we don't think about power usage we just use everything as and when.

As Michael says, posts add up to ratings, but with exception to those posts in the Chat , Games, Trivia etc. which do not add to your count.
Yes Michael, still here occasionally when able, health slipping again but still keeping the nurses busy lol!
