Part Four

The awning stopped moving last night just about the same time that Rooney scored...just after eight pm. No noise at all during the night. Sunshine this am so off the dog and I went before breakfast. The Fell tops were there for all to see.

Slight altercation in the adjoining field. A sheep and her lambs refused to move and stood her ground and then the threatening foot stomping routine. "How dure you come into my field (stomp Stomp). How very dure you (stomp)" The way sheep do. Suddenly I find myself telling this sheep off "Don't start that foot stomping thing!" Looked round to make sure that no one was watching me talking to sheep at that time of day. Well, any time of day really.

So glad of the built in GPS system in my waste hog this morning when I went to empty it. With the site filling up
and all the vans being white it can be a problem finding you way back to your own van, but I just followed the watery trail all the way back to my van.

Ever tried the Roman Road up to Weather Fell round here? Track, fence post, wire fence; Track, fence post, wire fence; Track, fence post, wire fence. Sometimes you can see the valley below and across to the other side. However the undulations in the landscape often mean that as you walk along all you get to see is Track, fence post, wire fence, over and over. What did the Romans ever do for us? They gave us miles of incredibly boring roads!!!

Sunshine today so its time to put the walking boots on. Today its a walk to Bainbridge along the valley bottom (ignoring what the Romans have left). Afternoon tea in a nice teashop in Askrig I think. Some folk are heading out already. A few days back they had wax coats and southwesters on but today its just a jumper...well trousers as well obviously.

Better check Michaels email ...thanks for that

Phil

Part Five

Too damn hot........ wish it would rain!

No only joking....but it has ben glorious here in Wensleydale today. Just as caravanning should be.

They have locks on the toilets here. Funny watching folk go and then turn back to their van to get the key. Why are the toilets locked ...they aren't at Chatsworth. Better class of toilet user?

I enjoyed the gentleman opposite this evening. Sat down in the evening sunshine and poured himself a pint of Boddingtons. Being elderly I assume it was for medicinal purposes. Wife went off to the loo and then came back for the key. "Forgot the key" she said. Uninterested he just poured the remaining Boddingtons into his glass and laid back in the sunshine. Style or what?

Great walk around the Dale today. Over to Bainbridge and up on the ridge, round and down to a disused railway track. No wonder they call it Gods own County.

Dog has been laid out on the bed ever since we got back...... completely sparked out.

Take the awning down tomorrow so well pleased that it is dry. It should stay that way overnight. You know what it's like wanting to take it down in sunshine. Hope the wind drops so folding won't be a nightmare.

Black Sheep tonight. For those of you who don't know its nothing to do with sheep more to do with hops. This is not an anti depressant its for heat stroke. That Theakstons pharmacy has something for all ailments.

Site is almost full now but there will be one space from Saturday when we leave to spend a few weeks at the seaside. Great living beside the sea....holidays inland walking this great country and real life beside the sea. Spoilt or what?

Anyway, thanks for your support during our traumas. Next trip is in the Breckon Beacons..who knows...the report may continue

regards

Phil

Arrived back but only after a bit of an altercation in Bedale. Turned out of the Market Place into what I thought was a one way street (well donkeys years back when I was around the area I am sure it was!) Its two way now and barely wide enough for two vehicles. Then some joker parked half on and off the pavement on double yellows.

Anyway, the oncoming traffic saw me and decided that it was fair game to continue forward. So I edged closer and closer to the kerb as they tried to get past. Then someone who has no understanding of caravanning wound down his window and shouted at me to move forward over the kerb. Like I was going to scrape my motor mover up and down a kerb. "You mount the kerb" and I explained my dilemma. "What's a motor mover?".

Anyway managed to get down without scratching anything. Its not just caravanners who need to go on courses is it?!!!!!

Hi, enjoyed your tale, sounds like the dog, was not only thing needing emptied on those stormy nights, pleased to hear you got some good weather in the end, as for drivers that think they own the road, stick them in car with van on rear, so they can experience what it is like from the caravaners view, With the caravan its the bad days that make Good days Great, hope you enjoy the rest of your tour.
