We are very new to this and after some advice. We get our new Orion in June and are wondering if we can find a porch awning to fit due to the position of the front window and door. The dealer said it cant go in front of the window as this takes it to where the awning channel starts to slope down so he reckons the other option is to position it after the first window ending just after the other side window. But is the gap between the front window and door too narrow, its less than the door width. Surely then the door wont be able to be secured into the fitting in the side of the van, if loose it will rub the side of the awning.

Pic 6 is the side view, do you see what I mean?

Your only option that I can think of is to turn a full awning into a porch awning.
This would require you to buy a combo kit from Isabella which is roughly £90
This awning would then go from the front of the van to wherever you want but this would require you cut the bead edging on the awning

Sorry meant combi kit. It's a rear pole leg with foam padding not to mark the caravan. Think only Isabella make these.
The bead edging is what goes around the awning channel to hold the awning in place.

We ordered an Isabella Magnum for our Orion 440-4 which we collect in August.

The man in the awning shop measured it up and said it would fit fine without covering the windows or anything else.

When we had our Adria we had the same problem with a porch awning. We couldn't fasten our door back but we found it not to be a problem. We used it that way instead of having the awning ending down the middle of a window.

Hi,

We are currently considering buying our first caravan and are quite keen on the Orion 440-4 and wondered how you were getting on with it and the porch awning? The OH wants a porch awning for weekends away and maybe a full one for longer breaks (I take it you can't get a full awning that you could also use part of as a porch awning?). We started off looking at getting a new folding camper (Conway Crusader or Pennine Quartz 6) but when we saw that the Orion is nearly the same price the OH prefers the caravan with all the luxury it offers. We have 1 baby at the moment so think the 440-4 suits us better as we can use the front double as two singles, one for the little boy and the other in case we have a 2nd (they are 5ft long so will be fine for years before we need to upgrade)! We would then use the rear double which is made up from the seating area. Although a fixed bed would be good the flexability of 2 daytime seating areas would suit us best. The OH loved the end bathroom as all the others we have looked at in our price & weight (we have a Vectra so are very limited) didn't have the seperate shower cubicle.

Would be really interested to hear your experiences and ideas for the awning!

Many Thanks

Darren

Ah! Now there's a story. After further thought, Savanne decided to but a different van, which she had to return to the dealer as it had a problem.  In the end she bought a Bailey Ranger, so is probably unable to help with the Orion question.  She may be away at the moment - I know she was going on a break to celebrate her birthday, so if she is reading this, have a good time, Savanne.
